(NEW YORK) -- Scotty McCreery may have won American Idol, but now the real test begins -- will anyone buy his debut single or play it on the radio? So far, the answer seems to be yes. Billboard reports that the country ballad "I Love You This Big" is projected to sell around 180 thousand downloads in its first week, which will give Scotty, at the very least, an instant top-15 single, perhaps even a top-10 single. If those numbers hold up -- and we'll find out Tuesday or Wednesday if they do -- Scotty will be looking at the best debut sales week for an American Idol winner's first single since David Cook's "Time of My Life" back in 2008.
Other recent American Idol winner numbers include Lee Dewyze's #24 debut for his first single, "Beautiful Day." Kris Allen's "No Boundaries" came in at #11 but only sold 134 thousand copies, fewer than Scotty is projected to sell.
