Jennifer Lopez Says New Series "The Fosters" Is Like Her Own Family

Photo by Steven Lawton/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Jennifer Lopez is an actress, singer and dancer, but now she's putting on her executive producer hat for a new ABC Family series called The Fosters.

Speaking about the show on Wednesday's Good Morning America, Lopez said, "This is definitely a non-traditional sort of family. This really has base themes that are important, which is family equals love, a place where you are accepted, completely, loved unconditionally, protected."

The Fosters, starring Teri Polo and Sherri Saum as the multi-ethnic moms, features one biological child, an adopted set of twins and a teenager the couple takes in as a foster child.  For 43-year-old Lopez, who raises 5-year-old twins Emme and Max with ex-husband Marc Anthony, Lopez admits the series reflects her own family in many ways.

"Yes, me being a single mom, their dad doesn’t live at home with them. They have three step-brothers from two other moms. You know what I mean? That’s not traditional," she explained.

Lopez split from Anthony, her third husband, in July 2011, when Max and Emme were three. She's now dating her backup dancer and choreographer, Casper Smart, who, at 25, is 18 years her junior. The couple is often sighted together with Max and Emme, but when it comes to tying the knot, Lopez said that won’t happen “anytime soon.”

"Listen, there is no perfect what family is supposed to be. It’s about love," Lopez said on GMA. "And that’s what I constantly remind myself of because I kind of let society kind of get in my head as well, 'Oh, it shouldn’t be like this. I failed. I did this, I did that.' And it’s like, no. [The kids are] happy, they’re healthy, they’re loved more than anything in the world and they’re going to be fine. I want them to know that."

So, can we expect Lopez to step out from behind the camera and appear on The Fosters?  "I don't know. I feel the show stands on its own," she says of a potential guest spot. "Of course, I’ll do whatever I can to make sure people know it’s out there and they watch it, but is a cameo the perfect way to do that? Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know. Whatever happens, I’m up for."

The Fosters premieres on ABC Family on June 3 at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

Jennifer Lopez "Sad" About Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Split

Theo Wargo/WireImage for Tommy Hilfiger(NEW YORK) -- Jennifer Lopez spoke to Entertainment Tonight on Thursday night about her friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' recent split.

Lopez, who has been through a few divorces over the years herself, said, "I'm sad for them." She added, "They're both really lovely people, and just like Marc and I, it's not what you want to happen. You fight and you try until you realize you can't anymore."

Lopez, who split from Marc Anthony last summer, said she hasn't spoken to Tom or Katie, but she has "thought about it a lot."  J-Lo first got word of the TomKat divorce when she was in South America, and she recalled being "stunned" by the news.

Lopez added that it's the children that often are affected the most by divorce -- Tom and Katie's daughter Suri, and his two children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman, Connor and Isabella.  She explained, "You know, I just wish them, you know, peace in their decision. And really for Suri and their other children as well, because you become such a family, it's not just Suri, it's Connor and Isabella and everybody, you know, you all become a family. And when that breaks apart, nobody wins, everybody's heartbroken in some way. And I just wish them peace."

Marc to J-Lo: Go See a Shrink

Theo Wargo/WireImage for Tommy Hilfiger(NEW YORK) -- Marc Anthony has told Jennifer Lopez she needs to see a shrink to help her figure out why she’s unable to be alone and goes straight from one relationship to another, RadarOnline reports.

The website says the estranged couple had yet another argument over the weekend, with Marc getting upset about wanting to see their twins more often.  A source close to the situation tells RadarOnline, “The real source of Marc’s anger is Jen’s relationship with back-up dancer Casper Smart.  Jen is very serious about him, and it makes Marc extremely jealous.”

The source says Marc “told Jen she [should] see a psychiatrist to deal with her issues to figure out why she always needs a man in her life.”  The source recalls that Jen and Ben Affleck “had just broken up when she got hot and heavy with Marc.”

Marc is now dating Venezuelan model Shannon de Lima.
