(SOLEBURY, Pa.) -- One of the co-creators of the popular Berenstain Bears children's book series has died.
Jan Berenstain died Friday in Solebury, Pa., at the age of 88. Her death was confirmed to the New York Times by her publisher, Harper Collins.
Jan Berenstain launched the Berenstain Bears book series with her late husband, Stan, in 1962. The series, which follows the adventures of Mama Bear, Papa Bear, Brother Bear and Sister Bear, has featured more than 300 books. Stan died in 2005.
Jan Berenstain is survived by two sons, Leo and Michael. Michael Berenstain is an illustrator who is involved in the book series.
