Javier Bardem Will Play Next James Bond Villain

FABRICE COFFRINI/AFP/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- In between being a new dad and fighting for human rights in Africa, Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem revealed he will star as Daniel Craig’s foe in the next James Bond film, slated for a November 2012 release.

In an exclusive interview with This Week anchor Christiane Amanpour, Bardem talked  about the plight of Western Saharan refugees, the subject of his upcoming documentary, but the Spanish actor also spoke of his new role as the villain in the latest Bond film, thus far known only as Bond 23.

“I am very excited. My parents took me to watch the movies and I saw all of them,” Bardem said of the Bond franchise. ”So to play that is going to be fun.”

Daniel Craig will reprise his role as 007 and Oscar-winner Sam Mendes will direct, but little else is known about the film. Bardem played up the mystery surrounding the plot.

“They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details,” he said. “It’s a bad guy but he has many different details that will make it, hopefully, more interesting than just a villain.”

Last seen playing Julia Roberts’ passionate lover in the 2010 film Eat, Pray, Love, Bardem won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in No Country for Old Men.
