Jennifer Lopez Confirms "American Idol" Departure

Frank Micelotta/FOX(LOS ANGELES) -- On Thursday, she seemed on the fence about it, but now Jennifer Lopez is sure: she's leaving American Idol.  J-Lo confirmed the news to American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on Friday morning, saying, "The time has come."

Lopez talked about how the many projects she's involved in right now complicate her life and "something had to give."  She said she "dreaded" telling Seacrest about her decision, but said, "I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things I do that I put on hold because I love Idol so much."  She added, "We had an amazing run."

When asked if the door was still open, she said, "I'm always gonna be there" for American Idol, but noted, "I just don't know if I can be there every single day, all the time, the way we've been doing it for the past two years."

As of now, Randy Jackson remains the only judge on the Idol panel, following Steven Tyler's departure on Thursday.  Mariah Carey is said to be in talks to join the show.

J-Lo's Status on "American Idol" 'Fluid'; Randy Shifting to Mentor?

Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Steven Tyler quit his job as a judge on American Idol on Thursday to focus on performing with Aerosmith, but what are Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson’s plans for season 12 of the popular Fox show?

A source at Fox tells that negotiations with Lopez remain "complicated and fluid."

The source adds, "It might get resolved very quickly or may drag on for another few weeks.  All the usual reasons: money, schedules, desire to continue, and overall makeup of the judges' panel."

Idol had its lowest-rated finale ever last spring, and overall ratings were down, too.  Yet, Lopez is reportedly asking for a lot of money to stay on board.

An insider tells, "I think she's off and it's mutual.  They're not inviting her back so quickly. Not because they're unhappy with her.  But because she wants a lot of f***ing money, a lot."

On NBC’s Today show Thursday morning, Lopez sure sounded like she was already finished with Idol, saying, "I am thinking it’s time for me to go and do other things I love to do."

So far, sources close to Fox have told that Lopez has not officially resigned from her judging position.

Elsewhere on the Idol front, a source tells Us Weekly that fellow judge Randy Jackson is also looking to leave the judges' panel, though he would stay on as a mentor on the show.  The source tells Us Weekly that "show producers think they need to freshen everything up now."

According to Us Weekly, should Jackson and Lopez vacate their seats at the judges' table, Mariah Carey is a likely candidate to replace them, since she's managed by Jackson.

A source dishes, "They are in serious talks with Mariah and it's very close to being a done deal.  And they will move Randy into a more mentoring role."

The insider adds that both Fergie of Black Eyed Peas fame and Idol alum Adam Lambert are being considered as possible new judges, too.

Jennifer Lopez on "Idol" Job: It May Be 'Time for Me to Go'

Michael Becker/FOX(NEW YORK) -- Rumors that Jennifer Lopez won't be returning for a third season of American Idol have been running rampant and during an appearance Thursday on NBC's Today show, the star herself seemed to indicate it's not a rumor -- that she may indeed be nearing the end of the road as a judge on the hit Fox series.

"I am thinking that it's time for me to go," Lopez said on Today.  "I've loved it so much. I've enjoyed the show so much. I enjoy just the whole process of the show ... It's a tough decision either way, but I have to say there are so many things I do that I put on hold for that."

But Lopez stopped short of saying she was through with American Idol.  When asked if she had made up her mind, she told Today's Natalie Morales, "Little by little I am ... I love everybody, I love all the guys on the show, I love the family that's there ... but I am thinking it's time for me to go and do other things I love to do."

Some American Idol watchers have opined that Lopez's seeming indecision about whether or not to return to Idol is part of a ploy to land a larger salary for next season.

Did Britney Spears Demand Her "X Factor" Check Be Higher Than J-Lo's?

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- While much had been made of Britney Spears' demands before she signed on as a judge for The X Factor, TMZ is reporting she had one main stipulation: she had to make more than Jennifer Lopez did on her freshman season of American Idol.

The gossip site reports Spears' "intractable demand" was to score a payday bigger than Lopez' $12 million first-season Idol salary.  Spears reportedly got her way: she's making a reported $15 million to Lopez's original $12 million deal -- though TMZ says Spears wanted $20.

Lopez was given a substantial raise for her second go-'round on Idol, but the site says it's less than the $20 million that has been reported.  It's unknown if she'll return as a judge next season, but declining ratings certainly don't help her case.  If she's offered less than Spears to come back, the site says Lopez would likely walk.

Jennifer Lopez Says Having More Kids ‘Would Be a Blessing’

Theo Wargo/WireImage for Tommy Hilfiger(NEW YORK) -- Although Jennifer Lopez admits having more kids “would be a blessing” she told People magazine she’s “got [her] hands full” already with a career firing on all cylinders and 4-year-old twins Max and Emma.  Speaking about her kids to People, J-Lo said, “Every day … they just bring so much joy and happiness to your life, [and] they just bring you right back down the earth.”

As for being a single mom balancing her duties on American Idol, her show Q’Viva! The Chosen, and her upcoming film, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Lopez said, “There’s the guilt that comes along with it. You leave and they go, ‘Don’t go to work, Mommy!”

Lopez, 42, said no matter how busy she gets, she’ll always put her kids first. “That’s my philosophy,” she said. “So as long as that’s … working in the right way, then I can dedicate whatever time I need to dedicate to my career … You just do the best you can, and say no when you have to say no.”

Of course, Lopez doesn’t do it all alone.  “I have a lot of great people in my life who help … at work and at home,” she said.  “I have a great family -- so all together -- we do it. It takes a village.”
