Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Mother Dies

Todd Williamson/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Jennifer Love Hewitt’s mother, Patricia, died Tuesday from complications due to cancer. She was 67.

“She was an angel to all who knew her and they are grateful she is now in a better place,” Hewitt’s family said in a statement. “They ask for privacy at this difficult time.”

Hewitt, 33, kept her mom’s illness private. Her mom helped her get her start in Hollywood, moving with Hewitt from Texas to Los Angeles in 1989. According to People magazine, two years ago, Hewitt joked that her mother has accepted her roles even when they’re not exactly family-friendly, like her current gig — playing a prostitute on The Client List.

“She was like, ‘So let’s review … For 15 years people have been talking about your boobs,” Hewitt said. “Earlier this year, you wrote about your hoo haw in a book. Now you’re playing a crack ho on TV.’ She was like, ‘Do you think maybe you could do an animated movie next?’”

Jennifer Love Hewitt May Join 'Law & Order: SVU' as New Detective

Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- Detective Elliot Stabler will have a new partner midway through the new season of Law & Order: SVU.

According to, producers have granted Mariska Hargitay's request to cut back on her on-set hours for the upcoming 13th season, and Jennifer Love Hewitt is the leading contender to sign onto the squad to replace Hargitay's Det. Olivia Benson, who will reportedly be promoted mid-season, clearing the way for Hewitt's character.

At this point, reports TVLine, nothing's definite.  If true, though, it's a sweet deal for Hargitay, whose $385,000 per episode salary remains intact.  Meloni reportedly has not yet signed a deal and is rumored to have asked for a raise.

If Hewitt were to join the SVU cast, it wouldn’t be her first time on the set.  Last fall, the actress guest-starred as a rape victim in an episode of the show.

Her last series was The Ghost Whisperer, which ended its five-season run on CBS last year.
