Jeff Daniels: 'More Hope Than Ever' for "Dumb & Dumber" Sequel

Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images(BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.) -- After conflicting reports of the fate of a long awaited Dumb & Dumber sequel, fans have a reason to smile: it's happening, swears Jeff Daniels.

The Newsroom star talked up his HBO show to TV critics on Wednesday in Beverly Hills, Calif., and afterwards told a small group of reporters that both he and Jim Carrey are ready to go, and shooting on a new Dumb & Dumber movie could start next spring or summer.

"Jim wants to do it, I want to do it," Daniels said.

The actor said original writer/directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly are on board as well.

"They want to re-write the script a little bit.  And they aren't trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do Newsroom in November.  So they're going, 'Why don't we just do it right, let's get...everybody organized to go next May or June,'" Daniels said.

Daniels ended his comments by saying, "I think there's more hope than ever."

Jeff Daniels: "Dumb and Dumber" Sequel Could Shoot Later This Year

Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Jeff Daniels is hinting that a sequel to the 1994 comedy Dumb and Dumber may be in the works.

The actor, who is currently enjoying success as the somewhat more cantankerous Will McAvoy in HBO’s The Newsroom, talked about possibly reprising his role as Harry Dunne in the film comedy.

Daniels told ABC News Radio, “Warner Brothers and New Line are very interested in doing it and I think it’s either going to happen or not happen in the next two weeks.”

Jim Carrey recently announced he was out of the sequel, blaming the studio for “dragging its feet,” but Daniels says shooting for the movie could start soon.

“If we’re lucky, and I’d love to do it, we’ll do it in the fall, but we aren’t there yet -- we all want to do it,” he said.

Director Bobby Farrelly has told The Wrap shooting could start as soon as September, and says Carrey “wants to do it.”

Nicolas Cage: Jim Carrey Wanted Me to Star in 'Dumb and Dumber'

David Livingston/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Nicolas Cage won an Oscar for his performance in Leaving Las Vegas, but only after he turned down an opportunity to work with Jim Carrey.

He tells The Huffington Post, "We talked at length about trying to do a movie together.  In fact, he wanted me to be in Dumb and Dumber with him.  And then I wanted to do a much smaller movie instead called Leaving Las Vegas."

Carrey went on to star in Dumb and Dumber with Jeff Daniels.

Cage, who appeared with Carrey in Peggy Sue Got Married, likely won't collaborate with him in the future.

He says, "We don't really speak so much anymore. We used to be very close."

Cage says there's no animosity between them; they just "fell out of conversation."

Did Jim Carrey’s Daughter Get Special Treatment on 'American Idol'?

Gregg DeGuire/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Jim Carrey’s 24-year-old daughter is heading to Hollywood after passing her American Idol audition in an installment that aired Sunday night, but she didn’t have to camp out or wait for hours on end for her shot at fame like thousands of other hopefuls, RadarOnline reports.

The website claims Jane Carrey received special treatment because she’s the daughter of a celebrity.

A source tells RadarOnline, “She didn’t have to sleep outside and wait for hours to audition like everyone else.  She basically had an appointment and showed up.”

The source says it’s doubtful the Idol judges gave Carrey special treatment, but the show did treat her like a VIP, adding, “Her audition was pre-arranged with the producers.  She did not wait and line up for hours or days outside -- she had a time, she showed up and went in.”

Carrey admitted in a taped piece that aired during the show that her famous last name "definitely helps and hurts."

"I feel there's kind of this pressure to maybe be better, because if I make it somewhere, I run the risk of people saying, 'Oh, you only got there because of this,'" Carrey said.

When Carrey revealed who her famous father is during her audition, Jennifer Lopez said she remembered meeting her as a little girl when Lopez and Jim Carrey were both on In Living Color in the early '90s.

Jane advanced to the next round after performing Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About."  Randy Jackson said he heard potential in her voice while Lopez liked the feel of her voice, but encouraged her to try to connect with her audience.

Afterwards, Jane called her dad.  Jim Carrey said his daughter is wonderful and he, "can't wait for the world to understand what she has."

Jane Carrey’s mom is Jim Carrey’s first wife, Melissa Womer.  The pair married in 1987 and divorced in 1995.

Kathy Griffin Mocks Jim Carrey with Online Love Letter to Justin Bieber

Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Jim Carrey's online love letter to Emma Stone has been mocked incessantly on the Internet, including by Kathy Griffin.

The 50-year-old comedienne has parodied Carrey's video with her own clip in which she jokingly professes her love for 17-year-old pop star Justin Bieber.

Griffin basically repeats everything that Carrey said about Stone in his video, while injecting her own humorous comments.

At one point she says, "Justin Bieber, I want you to know you are all the way beautiful, even with those lesbian bangs -- but that is not any diss to the LGBT community."

In a nod to Carrey's proclamation that he wants to have "chubby little freckle-faced kids" with Stone, Griffin says she likely can't give birth to Bieber's children because of her age, so they'll have to adopt.  She adds that any sexual activity between them would be "weird."

Jim Carrey: If I Were a Lot Younger, I Would Marry Emma Stone

VALERIE MACON/AFP/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Actor and comedian Jim Carrey has revealed his feelings for 22-year-old actress Emma Stone, saying he’d “have chubby little freckle-faced kids” with her.

In a video posted on his official webpage, Carrey told the world he would pop the question to Stone if he was “the appropriate age.”

Carrey said, "Emma, I think you're all the way beautiful.  Not just pretty, but smart and kind-hearted.”  He added that if they were a couple, “We'd laugh all day long, go camping and play Yahtzee.  Tell ghost stories by the fire."

However, Carrey does admit that Stone may not dig an older man like him.

He declared, “I'm 49.  I have lines on my face, sometimes a little gray in my beard, and it takes me a little bit longer to pee than it used to."

Regardless, the actor said he just wanted to let The Help star know how he felt, ending the video with, "I think you're very special and I wish you continued success and artistic fulfillment.  But most of all, I wish you love and contentment."

He then mouthed the words "I love you."
