Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler Named New American Idol Judges, Record Exec Jimmy Iovine To Mentor Contestants
(LOS ANGELES) -- After weeks of speculation, Fox officially revealed Wednesday who will serve as judges on the upcoming tenth season of American Idol. As had been rumored, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and singer/actress Jennifer Lopez will join original Idol judge Randy Jackson on the panel. At a press conference, Lopez said, “For nine years I’ve enjoyed watching artists compete to get a meaningful chance to achieve their dreams. I know from my own experience how hard it is to succeed, and I’m looking forward to discovering and nurturing that spirit in the many American Idol contestants I look forward to meeting this year." Tyler hinted at his judging style by saying, "I want to give everybody a little love before I decide who goes home heartbroken. If you don’t like what I say, don’t get mad, get better. I’m ready to bring some rock to this ‘roller’ coaster and show these kids if they have the dream, the talent and the drive, they will be the next American Idol.” Additionally, viewers can expect to be taken behind the scenes throughout the season because Interscope Geffen A&M Records Chairman Jimmy Iovine, a former music producer, will serve as mentor to the contestants. The new season of American Idol will premiere in January.
