'Austin Powers' Convicted Rapist Accused of Murdering Cellmate

Darrin Klimek/Thinkstock(LOS ANGELES) -- The man who played Dr. Evil's henchman Random Task in the original Austin Powers movie -- and who was recently sentenced to life in prison for a brutal sex crime -- is now suspected of murdering his prison cellmate, according the The Los Angeles Times.

The newspaper says Joseph Hyungmin Son was behind bars with a 50-year-old sex offender who was found murdered in their cell at Wasco State Prison in central California on Monday.

Son was arrested in 2008 in connection with the gang rape and kidnapping of a 20-year-old woman in California on Christmas Eve in 1990.  He was sentenced to life in prison last month.

'Austin Powers' Actor Convicted of Torture in Rape Case

Orange County Sheriff(LOS ANGELES) -- A man who appeared in the original Austin Powers film has been convicted of torturing a California woman in a 1990 gang rape case.

Forty-year-old Joseph Hyungmin Son, who played Dr. Evil’s henchman Random Task in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, was arrested in 2008 in connection with the case. He was already in custody in connection with an unrelated charge at the time of the arrest.

Son and another man were accused of dragging a 20-year-old woman into the back of a car, threatening her and raping her on Christmas Eve of 1990. Son also allegedly sexually abused the victim with a firearm before she was released naked in Compton, California.

Son will be sentenced on Sept. 19. He faces a maximum of 15 years to life in prison.
