Sarah Jessica Parker, Angelina Jolie Are the Highest-Paid Actresses

Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker has something else in common with Angelina Jolie besides beauty and fame. The two stars share the top spot on the latest Forbes magazine ranking of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses.

In the magazine’s 2011 list, Parker and Jolie are tied for first, with each earning $30 million between May 2010 and May 2011.  The magazine says Parker’s residual checks from Sex and the City and her $18 million perfume lines put her in the top spot with Jolie, who earned big bucks from her movies Salt and The Tourist.

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon each earned $28 million in the past year to tie for third place.  Julia Roberts and Twilight star Kristen Stewart were tied for fifth with $20 million each in earnings.

Altogether, the 10 highest-paid female stars in Hollywood earned a total of $218 million in the past year.

Forbes compiled its list by interviewing agents, lawyers, producers and others in Tinseltown.  You can find the complete list of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses at

Movie Review: ‘Larry Crowne’

Kevin Winter/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Imagine being a nine-time winner of Employee of the Month at the imaginary U-Mart retail chain, only to be suddenly let go because you never went to college. That's exactly the situation in which Tom Hanks' Larry Crowne finds himself. Unable to find a new job and in danger of defaulting on his house, he enrolls in the local community college. Realizing gas is expensive, Hanks and his co-writer, Nia Vardalos, endow Larry with a scooter...and on his very first scooter day, he meets the adorable, overzealous, flirty Talia, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw. She turns the unemployed, divorced, Navy vet into a cool guy. Happens all the time!
On the advice of a school dean, whose sole purpose in the movie is to tell Larry to take a speech class, Larry enrolls in that class. Can you guess who plays his professor? If you guessed Julia Roberts, you probably:
A -- Looked it up.
B -- Have seen the trailer.
C -- Have seen the commercial.
D -- Are very good at Trivial Pursuit.
Roberts plays Mercedes Tainot, who’s in a loveless marriage, is having an existential crisis and likes to drink. She also carries her issues into her classroom and is obsessed with Shakespeare. Total recipe for romance with Larry!
How can you not root for Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts? If you can't you probably:
A -- Don't have a heart.
B -- Hate animals.
C -- Think Forrest Gump and Pretty Woman are overrated.
D -- Don't like Tom Hanks or Juila Roberts.
But no matter how much you may like Hanks or Roberts, with the exception of Larry getting laid off at the beginning of the movie, nothing in Larry Crowne rings true. This is Hanks' second directorial effort -- the first being 1996’s That Thing You Do! -- and there are a few funny and poignant moments, but he can't string enough of them together to make it a good movie.

Two out of five stars.

Julia Roberts Lands Role as Global Ambassador

Michael Loccisano/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- Julia Roberts is making room for another entry on her resume, as the actress takes up the role of Global Ambassador with the Alliance for Clean Cookstoves.

According to a release from the U.S. Department of State, Roberts, an Academy Award-winning actress, will serve as a Global Ambassador with the alliance, and work alongside U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to help raise awareness about the issue of toxic smoke from unsafe and inefficient cookstoves killing millions of people globally every year.

“Nearly 2 million people around the world – mostly women and children – die each year from an activity that many of us take for granted: cooking for our families,” Roberts said. “I am proud to stand with Secretary Clinton to work to reduce the senseless and preventable deaths from unsafe cooking conditions in the developing world and I look forward to contributing to the important work of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves.”

The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves is a public-private partnership led by the United Nations Foundation, and involves more than 60 national governments. The alliance seeks to create a global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions.
