Will Smith on Fame and Family

Photo by Jun Sato/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Will Smith and his son Jaden co-star in the upcoming sci-fi drama After Earth, their second on-screen pairing after 2006's Pursuit of Happyness.

Fourteen-year-old Jaden and his younger sister Willow are following in their parents' footsteps with careers in music and movies, and the father-son duo spoke to New York magazine about their relationship on and off the big screen. Jaden and Willow's mom is actress Jada Pinkett Smith.

When asked if Jaden could have been a dentist instead of an actor, Will Smith replies, "It may seem like we have pushed our kids into the business, but that is absolutely insane. I would never, ever, push somebody to have their face on a poster that’s going be everywhere in the world. He is making a choice from the informed."

The elder Smith adds, "It's less scary to me than if he wanted to be a dentist in that I couldn’t help with what he'd chosen. I have relationships with some of the biggest filmmakers and actors and producers on Earth. So I can be a huge help."

Will notes that his daughter Willow chose to sing and then she changed her mind and he respected her decision. He explained, "At the peak of 'Whip My Hair,' she's like, 'Daddy, I'm done.' I was like, 'Wow, wow, wow. No, baby, I got Annie -- the upcoming movie remake, you know. It’ll be New York, you'll be with Beyoncé. You can bring your friends.' And she said, 'Daddy, I got a better idea. How about I just be 12?' At the end of the day, it has to be their choice."

Will was also asked about his family's similarities to the Kardashian family, who have essentially treated their fame as the family business. He responded, "We are trying to put great things into the world, we’re trying to have fun, and we're trying to become the greatest versions of ourselves in the process of doing things we love. So the idea of fame or exploitation or orchestrating the media is sometimes even less than desirable for us."

After Earth opens nationwide May 31.

Khloe Kardashian: 'I'm Not Kim or Kourtney'

Astrid Stawiarz/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Khloe Kardashian admits that being compared with her famous sisters Kim and Kourtney has taken an emotional toll on her.

“I’ve always known that I’m not Kim and I’m not Kourtney — I’ve always been O.K. with that,” she told the UK edition of Cosmopolitan magazine, while admitting, “I probably thought I was prettier before I entered the spotlight because being compared to somebody else every day does sort of beat up your spirit and soul.”

But the comparisons — and critiques — have made her a more confident woman.

“It’s made me stronger. I’ve gained another level of confidence,” the 28-year-old Keeping Up with the Kardashians star told the June issue.

Kardashian talks about the public hits she took after her dad died and she piled on the pounds.

“I was quickly criticized for not being a cookie-cutter sister like Kourtney and Kim. I lost about 30lbs [in 2009] before I did Kourtney And Khloé Take Miami. I was feeling so good about myself and I was still so critiqued. I thought, ‘Oh, my gosh, if I’m not good enough now…’ And that’s when something clicked in my brain: I have to do whatever is good for me… I feel that I’m healthier [now], but I don’t think I’m prettier thinner.”

Kardashian has recently slimmed down again but says she’ll never be stick-thin.

“I don’t expect to be a size 2 nor do I want to be. I’m 5-foot-10-inches, and I like being curvy, but I also like being toned.”

Kardashian also opened up about her struggles to have a baby with her husband, NBA star Lamar Odom.

“I just wanted to be, ‘Hey, let’s have a baby,’ and we would just have one. Kourtney did. And I wish that was the way for me. But it won’t be. I’ll have to take hormones. I do want to have a baby, but I don’t feel the urgency to have one this very moment,” she said.

When she does have kids, Kardashian said she won’t be a “momanger” like her own mother, Kris Jenner.

“[Once my mom told me] I was gaining weight, but she was talking to me as a manager, like I was ruining a brand deal,” Kardashian told Cosmopolitan. “It’s hard to understand that and it’s more hurtful when it’s coming from my mom.”

Now that she’s older, Kardashian said she feels sorry for rather than resents her mom, especially when she and her sisters “gang up” on her.

She also admitted that Kim is her mom’s favorite.

“It doesn’t bother me. They’re so similar — they could be the same person,” she said.

As for her pregnant sister Kim, Kardashian loves the rapport the family has with the baby’s father, Kanye West.

“I think Kanye knows how to deal with Kim really well. Because we’ve known him for so long, he’ll come to us if he wants advice on a birthday present or something. I like that. Kris [Humphries, Kim's ex-husband] wouldn’t even talk to us. I love that with Kanye we have that friendship. Because when you’re with one of us, you’re with all of us.”

Kendall Jenner Slams 'Too Thin' Criticism

ABC/Donna Svennevik(NEW YORK) -- Kendall Jenner has come a long way since her days as a preteen, being embarrassed by her over-the-top half-sisters on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Kim Kardashian’s younger half-sister covers the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, and the 17-year-old opened up to the magazine regarding the critics who say she’s too thin.

“I’m constantly criticized for being too skinny,” she said. “I’m trying to gain weight but my body won’t let it happen. What people don’t understand is that calling someone too skinny is the same as calling someone too fat, it’s not a nice feeling.”

The 5’10" teen showed a preview of the shots to her fans on Twitter Tuesday, tweeting, “amazing shot from my shoot with the incredible John Russo.”

Jenner’s famous half-sisters also couldn’t get enough of her glamorous shots.

“How gorgeous does Kendall look in her Harper’s Bazaar Arabia spread?!? I cannot get over these pics!” Khloe Kardashian posted to her blog. “She is absolutely breathtaking!!!! The fact that she is on the cover is truly an incredible honor and achievement and I am so proud of her. My baby sister is growing up!”

“Kendall’s Harper’s Bazaar Arabia spread is so stunning!” Kim Kardashian posted to her blog. “She did an amazing job and the photos turned out absolutely gorgeous.”

Kim Kardashian posted for Harper’s Bazaar Arabia back in 2011 and was also shot by John Russo.

Kardashians' Old Home at the Center of Phony 911 Call

Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Kim Kardashian is upset with whoever falsely reported an emergency at her family's former home in Malibu, Calif., on Friday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to the call and found no one in the home.  They eventually determined that the Kardashians were in their current Los Angeles County home and were OK, according to The Los Angeles Times.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's department said it was too soon to say whether it was a case of "swatting," a term used for prank phone calls made with the intention of getting police officers sent to an unsuspecting home.

Following the incident, Kardashian -- who was in Africa over the weekend -- tweeted, "Just got a call from my mom telling me about this prank call that someone was shot in their home & 15 swat team & 3 helicopters showed up! These prank calls are NOT funny! People can get arrested for this! I hope they find out who is behind this. Its dangerous & not a joke!"

Last Thursday, the Beverly Hills Police Department responded to a 911 call that falsely claimed there was an armed robbery in progress at Tom Cruise's home.

Report: Kardashian Fashion Products Are Produced in Sweatshops

Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Part of the Kardashian family's success has come from fashion lines they endorse.  Now, those lines are coming into question as a new Star magazine report, published on, claims some of them are being manufactured in sweatshops.

The magazine implies that items from the family's K-Dash by Kardashian, Kris Jenner Kollection and ShoeDazzle lines have been produced by Chinese sweatshops that utilize people -- some as young as 16 -- who work up to 84 hours per week, earning just $1 per hour.

also quotes an official with a human rights watchdog that the magazine says is investigating the Kardashians.

Charles Kernaghan, the executive director of the institute for Global Labour and Human Rights, is quoted as saying, “Not only are celebrities like the Kardashians taking advantage of these workers, they are holding hands with a government that spits on democracy and women’s rights.”

Kernaghan has since told that his comments were taken out of context and that his organization's investigation has turned up no evidence that the factories where the Kardashian items are produced are guilty of human rights violations.

Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner tells TMZ, "As far as I know the factories that are used to manufacture the Kardashian clothing and shoes have nothing terrible going on at all and the factories are very well policed and meet factory standards."

The family's rep denies the allegations to E! News.

Four More Kardashian Shows in the Works?

Scott Kirkland/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- "The more things change, the more things stay the same," says the old adage, which apparently will soon apply to E!.  The network is undergoing a major re-branding effort, from its logo inward, at the hands of NBCUniversal cable entertainment head Bonnie Hammer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hammer -- who helped put the successful USA Network on the map -- is looking to similarly transform the entertainment channel, currently home to the hits Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Kourtney and Kim Take New York.

For those who might be hoping that a new E! will mean less of the Kardashian family, think again.  Hammer says she envisions, "two, three, even four new Kardashian [spinoffs],"including a pair from mom Kris Jenner's two youngest daughters Kendall, 14, and Kylie, 13 -- who are technically Jenners, not Kardashians, because they are Kris Jenner's kids with former Olympian Bruce Jenner, not hers with her former husband, the late celebrity lawyer Robert Kardashian.

As for the backlash over Kim Kardashian's 72 day wedding -- itself the grist of countless hours of E! programming -- Hammer insists, "This was not a stunt.  In no way did people believe that this was going to happen...I think true Kardashian fans know that a bigger than life mistake can be made easily in their world.  Everything they do is bigger than life...It's in their DNA."
