Michael Strahan Jumped at the Chance to Co-Host "Live!"

Ray Tamarra/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- It didn't take long for Michael Strahan to accept the offer to co-host Live! with Kelly Ripa.

The former NFL star, who was officially named to the position on Tuesday, said at a press conference that Ripa personally asked him to join her on a permanent basis.

He recalled that she asked him, "Would you consider doing the honor of being..." To which he said, "Stop it, stop it.  You had me at 'consider.'"

Ripa said of Strahan, "I think he is terrific and just one of these great gentlemen that makes you feel happy to be around him."

Michael Strahan to Co-Host "Live!" with Kelly Ripa

Dave Russell/ABC(NEW YORK) -- Kelly Ripa's got a new morning TV partner: Michael Strahan.

"We finally have our new guy.  That's right I said guy," Ripa said on Live! Tuesday as she introduced the former football star.  "It's an exciting morning."

"I'm speechless," Strahan said.  "It's a dream come true."

Reports that Strahan landed the gig began circulating in August.  The former New York Giants star was among the 59 co-hosts who have filled in since the departure of Regis Philbin, who hosted Live! for 28 years before departing last November.

Other candidates for Philbin's old job included Saturday Night Live's Seth Meyers and NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan.  Many co-hosts came for fun, like Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Groban, Nick Lachey and Ripa's husband, Mark Consuelos.

Strahan, 40, has dabbled in other TV projects since retiring from the Giants after their 2008 Super Bowl win.  He serves as a co-host of Fox NFL Sunday.  He also starred in the short-lived Fox sitcom Brothers in 2009 and has appeared in several commercials.

Ray Tamarra/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- How does Live! with Kelly and Michael sound? is reporting that frequent Live! guest co-host Michael Strahan has been tapped as the permanent replacement for Regis Philbin on the daytime talk show.

According to the website, a rep for Strahan was spotted Tuesday outside the Manhattan building where Live! is staged, "grinning from ear to ear."

Strahan, a former New York Giants defensive star who won a Super Bowl in 2008, is currently a studio analyst for Fox's NFL coverage.

It was announced earlier this week that Kelly Ripa's permanent co-host will be named on Sept. 4.

Live! has employed various guest co-hosts, including Strahan, since Regis said goodbye last November.

Walker/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Could Seth Meyers scale back his duties on Saturday Night Live and move to daytime TV alongside Kelly Ripa? reports Meyers, a frequent guest co-host on Live! with Kelly, is the front-runner to be named the permanent replacement for Regis Philbin.  The report speculates that if Meyers is hired, he may resign as SNL's head writer but continue to anchor its "Weekend Update" segment.

Kim Kardashian: Marriage Was a 'Bad Business Decision'

Don Arnold/WireImage(NEW YORK) -- Kim Kardashian was Kelly Ripa's co-host on Live! with Kelly Monday morning, and the reality show starlet didn't shy away from questions about her divorce from Kris Humphries after 72 days of marriage.

A public backlash centered on the fact that the whole $10 million event -- which was rumored to net the couple millions thanks to E! special airings -- seemed like a sham.

"I really didn't think following my heart would lead to this much backlash," Kardashian admitted.

She explained if the wedding was a business decision, it was a bad one.  Apparently, it tarnished the Kardashian brand -- as evidenced by recent stories of ratings drop-offs for anything to do with the reality show clan.

"Me being such a hopeless romantic I wanted to believe in something so badly," Kardashian said. "If this was a business decision, and I really made all that money that everyone was claiming that we made off this wedding...I'm a smart businesswoman.  I would have stayed married longer.  This was a bad business decision."

Will Rob Lowe Replace Regis Philbin?

Mitchell Haaseth/NBC(NEW YORK) -- The latest rumor on a replacement for Regis Philbin is Rob Lowe, according to a report by TMZ.

The actor already has a gig on Parks and Recreation, but the report says when Lowe did a guest host spot with Kelly Ripa on Live! with Kelly, execs at ABC “loved the chemistry” between the two.  The report says network executives have been in talks with the actor’s reps in the hope of making the partnership permanent.

Speaking to a TMZ reporter at New York's JFK International Airport, the actor said, “I love New York.  I love the energy.  It would be a nice change of pace.  I’m a California boy, but it would be fun.”  Live! with Kelly is produced in New York.

Neil Patrick Harris, Jerry Seinfeld, and Ripa’s husband, Mark Consuelos, have also co-hosted the morning talk show since Philbin left late last year.

Regis Philbin Bids Farewell to 'Live!'

David Russell/Disney-ABC Domestic TV(NEW YORK) -- Regis Philbin made good on his promise -- and on a $10 bet with Katie Couric -- that he wouldn’t cry as he bade farewell to Live! With Regis and Kelly in a star-packed studio in New York City on Friday.  Philbin closed the show, and this chapter of his career, by thanking his fans for “these great years together” and telling them, “I hope I see you again real soon.”

“I’ll always remember spending these mornings with all of you,” he said.

Couric -- who made the bet during a Nightline interview with him, and who was seated among the other stars in the audience -- did cry.

Philbin, who holds the record for the most time on the air at 16,780 hours and has been a fixture on television for half a century, hosted Live! for 28 years including 15 beside Kathie Lee Gifford, who was in the audience filled with friends, family, and famous fans on Friday.

Excited fans chased Philbin as he crossed the street from his apartment to the studio on Manhattan's West Side, and celebrity guests walked a red carpet before the show they attended to pay tribute to the TV icon.  ABC’s Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts, Meredith Viera and Couric were among those who feted their friend and colleague while speaking with journalists at the event.  Regis was also praised by Jane Krakowski, Alan Alda and Tony Danza, as well as real estate mogul and TV personality Donald Trump, who called Philbin "an institution."

Live! staffers were in tears as Regis and Ripa walked out holding hands at the start of the show, which featured New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg presenting the New York native with a key to the city.  Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, gave Philbin another surprise, a bronze plaque on the building in Philbin’s honor.

The show also included a montage of celebrity impersonations of Philbin, a performance by the cast of the Broadway show Rent and a tribute from his two daughters J.J. and Joanna, and his wife Joy.

Ripa was emotional throughout the show.  She ignored her co-host’s advice to, “Never write anything down and speak from the heart,” as she read a message about the “43 steps” from her dressing room to the stage -- which Philbin took with her every morning -- telling her friend how much he changed her life.  She said she wished Philbin's next 43 steps will “fill you with the joy that you’ve filled us with for all these years.”

Executive Producer Michael Gelman told reporters before the show, “We’re starting the dating process” to select a new co-host.  Jerry Seinfeld will be Ripa’s first co-host for three episodes next week, other celebrities will also be filling in, including Neil Patrick Harris.

As for any potential replacements, Ripa told ABC News any potential co-host should be "easy to work with," which, she admitted is a nice way to say someone who's "not a pain in the butt."  Any names at the top of the list?  "I know what you know," Kelly exclaimed, saying she only found out about Seinfeld's participation by reading the newspaper, "like everyone else."

Jerry Seinfeld to Temporarily Replace Regis Philbin

Barry Brecheisen/WireImage(NEW YORK) -- Jerry Seinfeld’s coming back to TV, though not in the format you might have expected.

The comedian will temporarily fill Regis Philbin’s shoes on Live! with Kelly following Philbin’s Nov. 18 departure. Seinfeld will join Kelly Ripa for three shows airing Nov. 21-23.

“Jerry is a great friend of ours, and a friend of Kelly’s, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s an entertainment icon,” executive producer Michael Gelman said in a statement. “It’s a great way to kick off the new beginning of our show.”

Seinfeld and Ripa will chat with guests including Jason Segal, Kim Cattrall, Howie Mandel, Jamie Oliver and, potentially most memorably, Miss Piggy.

Kelly Ripa & Husband: Our Youngest Child Is Our Favorite Child

Mike Stobe/Getty Images for the New York Red Bulls(NEW YORK) -- Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, have three children, but only one of them is their favorite. On Wednesday's episode of The Rachael Ray Show, the couple revealed that their eight-year-old son Joaquin -- and not their 14-year-old son Michael or their 10-year-old daughter Lola -- is their favorite. Consuelos told Rachael Ray the kids understand their parents favor Joaquin, adding, "It's very accepted. He's just nicer to us. That's what we say: he's just nicer to us."

Ripa put it a different way. She said, "You may say 'I love all my kids the same' but you know in the event of emergency, there's one kid you'd reach for first."
