(LOS ANGELES) -- Actress Katie Holmes has filed a $50 million libel lawsuit in federal court in Los Angeles against American Media Inc., the publisher of Star magazine, according to TMZ.
The lawsuit was filed after a recent cover of the magazine suggested that she was a drug addict. The magazine ran the headline "Addiction Nightmare -- Katie Drug Shocker! -- The Real Reason She Can't Leave Tom."
TMZ reports that Holmes felt the cover is deliberately defamatory and libelous. The suit reads, "Katie has no intention of leaving her husband, and is not prevented from doing so by any drug addiction."
Meanwhile, Holmes' lawyer told TMZ, "Star magazine's malicious claims about Katie are untrue, unethical, and unlawful. Not only do they cruelly defame Katie, they play a cheap trick on the public, making ridiculously false claims on the cover unsupported by anything inside."
