Report: Lindsay Lohan 'Devastated' by "Liz & Dick" Reviews

Richard McLaren/Lifetime(LOS ANGELES) -- By now it's well known that most reviewers sharpened their knives for Lindsay Lohan's turn as Elizabeth Taylor in the much-talked-about Lifetime movie Liz & Dick.

What was meant to be a career comeback for Lohan was dismissed by The Hollywood Reporter, for example, as ''a lost Saturday Night Live skit," and Lohan's performance was labeled "woeful."

Now, it seems those critical barbs have hit home for the troubled star.

"Lindsay is devastated," an unnamed friend reportedly told the Huffington Post.  "She has got used to all the negative press around her personal life but this is the first time she has experienced it about her work.  No matter how bad things were going for her personally, everyone would always agree that she was a great actress."

Her estranged dad Michael Lohan threw his support behind his daughter, however, telling the Post, “Due to the content, I had to step away from a lot of the scenes, but regardless of what some of these so-called critics, who don't have an ounce of talent in their bones say, Lindsay proved that she is an amazing actress.  This was a different role for her at a difficult time of her life.”

The film drew a solid, albeit unspectacular, audience for its premiere on Sunday night, averaging 3.5 million viewers.  Lifetime notes it was the fourth-most-watched original movie premiere on ad-supported cable in 2012, trailing three other projects the network aired earlier in the year.

Liz & Dick's ratings didn't come close to that of Lifetime's Steel Magnolias remake, which debuted last month to 6.5 million viewers.

"Liz & Dick" Producer: Working with Lindsay Lohan Presented 'Challenges'

Richard McLaren/Lifetime(LOS ANGELES) -- Working with Lindsay Lohan on her upcoming Lifetime movie Liz & Dick was no easy task, according to the show’s executive producer, Larry Thompson.

According to E! Online, Thompson explained Wednesday on a conference call that "producing a movie with Lindsay is not for the faint of heart."

In fact, he recalled, "I turned 50 shades of white actually during the production."

Having Lohan portray Elizabeth Taylor meant that her personal drama would come with her to work every day, he said.

Thompson said, "We had serious challenges to deal with due to her probation and her history.  Therefore we had to make a deal where there were pages and pages of 'what if' clauses.  There never was a 'what if she can act' clause.  It was about, 'What if there is a car accident?  What if there is a violation of her probation and she's incarcerated?'  Those 'what ifs' were plenty.  She might be the most insured actress who ever walked on a soundstage.  We tried to insure ourselves against things that could and, in fact, did happen."

The production had to take an insurance day when Lohan was involved in a car accident last June while in the middle of shooting Liz & Dick.  But despite the personal drama, Thompson thinks Lohan gave a stellar performance.

He said, "Overall, my gosh, relative to the performance we got and the movie we were able to make because of her, the pain was worth the pleasure.  And the audience is going to benefit from the risk we took and the reward that was gained."

Liz & Dick premieres Nov. 25 on Lifetime.

Lindsay Lohan's "Liz and Dick" to Premiere November 25

Richard McLaren/Lifetime(LOS ANGELES) -- The highly anticipated TV movie, Liz and Dick, which has been described as troubled actress' Lindsay Lohan's comeback film, will premiere on Lifetime November 25, the cable channel announced Monday.

The Mean Girls actress portrays Elizabeth Taylor opposite Grant Bowler, who plays Richard Burton. The Lifetime original movie centers on the famous couple's torrid love affair.

“I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well," Lohan said back in April on her role. "I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”

News of Lohan portraying the iconic movie star came after her successful completion of court-mandated community service and therapy sessions, following a 2007 DUI case in Beverly Hills. Still, Lohan remains on informal probation for a 2011 shoplifting conviction; and has been plagued with bad press due to an alleged hit-and-run in New York City and a recent scuffle with a congressional aide regarding cell phone photos.

Elizabeth Taylor's Trailer Damaged on "Liz & Dick" Set

Richard McLaren/Lifetime(LOS ANGELES) -- Even when she's at work, Lindsay Lohan can't escape controversy.  A trailer on the set of her Lifetime movie Liz & Dick has suffered major damage, and its owner, who spoke to CNN, isn't happy about it.

What makes the trailer so significant is that it was once used by Elizabeth Taylor, the legendary actress whom Lohan is portraying in the TV film.  The trailer was given to Taylor while she was making her movie Cleopatra, co-starring her future husband -- and ex-husband -- Richard Burton.

It was purchased by an Elizabeth Taylor fan, Angel Alger, for $50,000 in June, but the terms of the sale required her to let the Liz & Dick crew use it for a week.

Alger tells CNN that the trailer suffered what she estimates to be at least $100,000 worth of damage during production, including cigarette burns on furniture and shattered glass.  She also says a rocking chair that Taylor frequently sat on was stolen.

Alger says, "Only a psychotic and rebellious person or people would steal irreplaceable museum belongings and leave it in this vandalized condition."

She believes Lohan may be responsible, because a studio employee told her the actress and her friends had access to the trailer on a nightly basis.  Lohan's rep denies Lohan damaged the trailer, telling CNN, "This has nothing to do with Lindsay."

Lohan's Lifetime movie premieres on Nov. 3.  New pictures of Lohan as Taylor were released this week.

Two crew members were later hospitalized with exhaustion.
