Reports of Rihanna's Poor Ticket Sales Inaccurate, Says Promoter

Island Def Jam(NEW YORK) -- Last week, Rihanna came under fire when the New York Post reported that she was having so much trouble selling tickets to her upcoming Loud tour that several shows were in danger of cancellation, and that she was being advised to downscale the tour.  Now, Iriving Azoff, chairman of the tour's promoter, Live Nation, told writer Bob Lefsetz's blog that those reports were inaccurate and that the tour is doing just fine.

According to Azoff, 64 percent of the tickets for Rihanna's North American shows are already sold, even though the tour doesn't begin until June.  In fact, says Azoff, tickets are selling at the rate of 700 per day.  Azoff also disputes reports that only 3,700 tickets have been sold for her Boston concert -- he says 5,800 have been sold, and projections show that 90 percent of available tickets will have been sold by the time the show takes place four months from now.   Additionally, a source tells Billboard that R&B shows are historically "late-selling," which means fans tend to wait until the last minute to purchase their tickets.

Rihanna has already sold out 56 arena dates in Europe, and on Friday, tickets for her ninth show at London's O2 arena sold out.  The North American leg of the Loud tour kicks off June 4 in Baltimore with opening acts Cee Lo Green and J. Cole.
