Amanda Bynes Arrested on Marijuana Charge in New York City

Jason Merritt/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Former child star Amanda Bynes was arrested on Thursday evening in New York City, police confirmed to ABC News.

Bynes, 27, was charged with tampering with physical evidence, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of marijuana, NYPD spokesman Det. Brian Sessa told ABC News.

“There was a 911 call at her apartment building that someone was smoking marijuana in the lobby,” Sessa said, adding that once police arrived, a building official took them upstairs to her apartment and Bynes let them inside.

“There was a heavy smell of marijuana,” Sessa said. “[Then] she took the bong and threw it out the window.”

Bynes is still in police custody, according to Sessa.

Bynes, who has previously been charged with DUI, has displayed erratic behavior recently, tweeting provocative photos of herself and dramatically changing her look. However, just last fall, the actress told People magazine that she was “doing amazing,” and planning to launch a fashion line.

Messages for Bynes’ attorney have not been returned.

Do "Weeds" Stars Dig Weed?

D Dipasupil/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- The Showtime hit Weeds is going up in smoke. The series premiere this Sunday, July 1, will mark the show’s eighth and final season.

“Weeds” had its dramedy debut in 2005, helping to boost the careers of actors Hunter Parrish and Alexander Gould, along with its leading lady, Mary-Louise Parker. The show established itself as an outstanding comedy and earned Parker a Best Actress Golden Globe for her role as the marijuana-selling mom, Nancy Botwin.

With the show going into its last season, we were curious where its stars stood on the controversial topic of toking up or keeping clean.

Here is what they’ve said:

Mary-Louise Parker:  Mary-Louise Parker didn’t try pot until she was 45, according to Vanity Fair. And even then, she claims she didn’t smoke it; she licked a pot-laced lollipop once to cure her nausea when she was sick.  But Parker claims the lollipop experiment left her unimpressed.

“My entire life, I never wanted anything to do with marijuana. So when I was sick, I was like, ‘What the hell?’ I was actually kind of excited about it. I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m 45 and I’m having my first pot experience!’

Hunter Parrish:
Hunter Parrish says he has indeed tried pot. But it was only after his stint in the lead role of  the Broadway musical Spring Awakening ended, leaving him in what he calls a “very dark place” in his life.

He told the New York Post, “I have smoked. I’m not a fan. I like to be in control. It’s something that makes me feel out of control.”

Kevin Nealon:  Kevin Nealon claims to not partake in pot.

Nealon spoke with the Santa Barbara Independent about his awkward encounters with fans who refuse to believe he’s not the pot-smoking accountant he portrays on the show.  He said, “When I tell them that I, Kevin Nealon, do not personally smoke marijuana, they usually wink and say, ‘That’s cool, man. Neither do we, you know, if anyone’s asking.’”

Justin Kirk:  Justin Kirk doesn’t hide the fact he’s no stranger to the pot world.

The 36-year-old actor laughs, telling Scripps News, “I guess you could say that marijuana is paying my rent these days,” referring to his pot-selling character, Andy Botwin. “Used to be a time when pot used to take away from my rent.”

Elizabeth Perkins:  Elizabeth Perkins openly says she is 100 percent  pro-legalization.

Perkins cleared the air with Zap2it saying, “I think it is crazy that it is illegal, and I think it is crazy that people are in jail once they get busted with small amounts of marijuana. I am so pro-legalized marijuana because I just don’t see it as that dangerous of a narcotic. I don’t think that means high school students should be able to do bong hits whenever they want to. I do think (adults) should be able to do what they want in the privacy of their own home with an herb that grows in the backyard.”

Snoop Dogg Arrested in Texas

Maury Phillips/WireImage(SIERRA BLANCA, Texas) -- Snoop Dogg was arrested in Texas over the weekend after a police dog sniffed out marijuana on his tour bus.

Authorities tell TMZ that Snoop's bus was stopped in Sierra Blanca, the same small town in West Texas where country singer Willie Nelson was caught with weed in 2010.  At the time, Snoop spoke out on Willie's behalf, telling TMZ that cops "better leave Willie the f*** alone."

Border patrol agents on Snoop's bus over the weekend say their dog led them to a wastebasket, where they found a prescription bottle with several joints inside.  Snoop -- who has a prescription for cannabis in California -- was taken into custody because Texas has a zero-tolerance policy for weed, regardless of a person's status elsewhere.  Authorities issued Snoop a citation for misdemeanor drug possession and released him.  If he's convicted on the drug charge, he could face up to 180 days in jail.

Miley Cyrus' Rep Says 'Stoner' Comment Was Just a Joke

PRNewsFoto/MTV Networks International(LOS ANGELES) -- Miley Cyrus was just showing a sense of humor when she claimed she was a "stoner" at her 19th birthday party in Hollywood last week, according to her rep.

Upon receiving a cake featuring the image of reggae singer and well-known marijuana smoker Bob Marley, Cyrus told her friends, "You know you're a stoner when your friends make you a Bob Marley cake.  You know you smoke way too much f***ing weed."

Video of Cyrus' comments were posted online over the weekend by The Daily.

So has Cyrus really become a pothead?  Not at all, says her rep.

In a statement obtained by People magazine, the rep says, "This is so ridiculous.  The cake was a joke, and Miley was being sarcastic."

Cyrus' pal Kelly Osbourne, who presented the cake to her at the party, has also claimed it was all a joke.

Last year, Cyrus came under fire after a video of her smoking the legal herb salvia from a bong was leaked.  Osbourne referenced that video at Cyrus' recent birthday party, saying, "I thought salvia was your problem, Miley."

Soulja Boy Locked Up; Hit with Felony Drug, Gun Possession Charges

Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic(ATLANTA) -- Soulja Boy tweeted that Tuesday would be "BUSY AND HUGE VERY HISTORICAL" because of his Soulja Boy: The Movie DVD release, but the 21-year-old rapper found himself in jail instead.  He and four others were arrested early Tuesday morning in Temple, Ga., after an alleged traffic violation caught the eye of police, leading to the discovery of "a lot of marijuana" in the Cadillac Escalade in which the group was riding.

A spokesman for Temple police tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that cash and guns were also found in the vehicle.  Published reports say investigators are trying to determine whether the men had proper licenses for the firearms.

Officers took Soulja -- born DeAndre Cortez Way -- and the others, including a hired driver, to Carrol County jail on charges of possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.  Billboard reports that police denied a TMZ report based on a source's claim that the cash and drugs found in the car were valued at around $70,000.

Nelson's tour bus pulled into a routine checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas -- approximately 85 miles east of El Paso -- around 9 a.m. on Friday. When an officer noticed a suspicious odor coming from the bus, a search turned up the marijuana, police said.

According to police patrolman Bill Brooks, a sheriff from Hudspeth County was contacted and Nelson was among three people arrested at the scene. Nelson was held briefly and paid a $2,500 bond before being released.
