Matthew McConaughey: What I've Learned as a Dad

Photo by Ray Tamarra/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves welcomed their third child five months ago, and on Sunday, they told ABC News that they were in the middle of the first weekend away from their kids since his birth.

“It’s very relaxing, exciting,” Alves said at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. “I got off the plane and was like, ‘No car seats! No strollers!’”

“We noticed on the plane: ‘Where is everybody?’” said McConaughey, who also told reporters that he’s gained back much of the weight he lost for Dallas Buyer’s Club. He said he’d gained the weight back by just increasing the portions of his already healthy diet.

The couple, who were there on behalf of their Just Keep Livin Foundation, a charity dedicated to empowering high school students to live active and healthy lives, were ready to kick back — but their minds were clearly with their kids, Levi, 4, Vida 3, and baby Livingston.

“Right now there’s a whole lot of signs of me in all of them,” McConaughey said. “It’s a colorful house that’s for sure! And talk about whose personalities: One thing you learn when you’re a parent that I didn’t know as much beforehand is how much DNA … as soon as they’re born they are who they are. You can shape them, but they’re very unique, different from each other immediately.”

But his little girl has her dad wrapped around her finger, he said: “That’s a constant honeymoon!”

Alves said that three kids is work, too.

“It’s not that it’s tougher — it’s just that I had my systems down with two kids and now with three I’m still learning,” she said of her little ones, who are “into everything.”

“I’m taking tips,” she said. “I’m still working on the systems that work for three, but we’ll get there!”

John Shearer/Getty Images For Piaget(NEW YORK) -- Silver Linings Playbook shone at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, a kind of prelude to Hollywood's biggest awards -- the Oscars, winning four of the honors given to the best of independent films.

The film, which was nominated in five categories, won best picture, best director and best screenplay for David O. Russell, and best actress for Jennifer Lawrence, who also won best actress at the Golden Globes.

Bradley Cooper was also nominated for best actor for his role in the film, but he lost out to John Hawkes for The Sessions.

Helen Hunt, Hawkes' co-star in The Sessions, also won in the best supporting actress category.

The best supporting actor award went to Matthew McConaughey for Magic Mike.

The Spirit Awards “celebrates artist-driven filmmaking and recognizes the finest achievements of today's independent filmmakers," according to the Film Independent website.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards were first given out in 1984, which were known as the FINDIE Awards (Friends of Independents). The awards were later renamed as Independent Spirit Awards in 1986.

Saturday Night Live cast member Andy Samberg was this year's host.

Unlike other award shows, the Film Independent Spirit Awards ceremony is a luncheon event in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica, Calif., but the winners were not announced until after the ceremony aired Saturday on IFC at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Matthew McConaughey Loves His Babies' Mama

Mark Sullivan/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Sorry, ladies.  Matthew McConaughey only has eyes for one woman.  The actor, currently starring on the big screen in The Lincoln Lawyer, tells Esquire he wants to spend forever with his partner, Camila Alves, the mother of his two children.  McConaughey said, "I found the woman I wanna do it with, the woman I wanna make a family with, hopefully live our life out together." He added, "She needs to have 50 percent of that.  I mean, it's a lot easier for me to be at 100 percent.  I'd always been 100 percent.  It's braver for me at 50 percent."

McConaughey also said there's more to him than the laid-back dude he's often portrayed as in the media, noting, "Do I think the image of me is a true picture of who I am?  No, it's incomplete.  Am I a fun-loving guy, man?  Who likes running around in the summer with his shirt off, man?  Am I a guy who likes to hang out with his friends, and party and go to concerts and football games with his friends?  Well, yeah!  Yes, I am.  Always have been.  Always hopefully will be.  You know?"
