Michael Douglas Says Oral Sex Caused His Throat Cancer

Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images(LONDON) -- In a headline-grabbing moment during an interview with the British newspaper The Guardian, Oscar winner Michael Douglas says his near-fatal bout with throat cancer was caused by oral sex.

When asked if he regretted years of smoking for its link to cancer, the Behind the Candelabra star told the paper, "No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from [oral sex] ... it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer," said the actor.

Douglas, 68, also told the paper how the cancer that was diagnosed in 2010 had been missed by other doctors he'd seen, and that it only took a tongue depressor for a friend's doctor in Montreal to find the, "walnut-size tumour at the base of my tongue."

Douglas recalled, "I will always remember the look on his face. He said: 'We need a biopsy.'"

The Wall Street star is currently in remission.

Report: Michael Douglas' Son Busted Behind Bars

Gregg DeGuire/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- Cameron Douglas, the former DJ-turned-convicted drug dealer son of Oscar winner Michael Douglas, reportedly can't keep his nose clean behind bars. The New York Post reports he was busted earlier this month for failing a prison drug test.

The newspaper says Cameron was placed in solitary confinement when a urine test betrayed the presence of drugs.

The 34-year-old is serving a 10-year federal sentence at a lockup in Loretto, Pa.  While his original conviction for dealing drugs was reduced because he reportedly tattled against others in the trade, more than four years were added to Cameron's sentence when he was found to have tried to sneak more drugs into the prison in 2010.

Cameron was recently beaten up in prison, allegedly because of a bounty from a crime boss who didn't take too kindly to Cameron's cooperation with authorities.

Michael Douglas: 'Odds Are' He's Beaten Cancer

Photo Courtesy - Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Michael Douglas says he's been on a "wild six-month ride" with throat cancer that may have come to an end.  In an interview with NBC's Matt Lauer, the Oscar-winning actor says his tumor is gone.

He says, "I think the odds are with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer that I've got it beat."

The 66-year-old Douglas, who announced his cancer diagnosis in August, said he lost about 32 pounds while undergoing treatment for the disease, but has gained back about 12 pounds.  He said he still has to be checked out by a doctor once a month for the next few months.

Douglas says he's celebrated his improved health condition with his family, including his two children with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.  He also says the kids may have been affected by the paparazzi's interest in his cancer battle.

Douglas declares, "I resent the amount of imposition on our children, too, because it used to be at least they would try to keep them out of that, and they don't at all.  They were having -- there was sort of a macabre enjoyment out of sort of watching me go down there for a while I felt by the paparazzi."

Douglas has a 10-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter with Zeta-Jones.

A part of Lauer's interview with Douglas will air on NBC's Today show Tuesday morning.  The full interview will air Sunday, Jan. 23 on Dateline NBC.

Publicist Denies Reports That Michael Douglas Is Dying

Photo Courtesy - Evan Agostini/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Michael Douglas is not at death's door.  Some tabloids have reported the actor, who just completed treatment for advanced throat cancer, is preparing for the worst, including a Star cover story featuring the ailing Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps star with the headline, "Saying Goodbye."

Not true, says Allen Burry, Douglas' friend and longtime publicist.  He tells People magazine, "Michael is totally focused on his recovery...It's been very difficult, [but Douglas' doctors] are very pleased with how he responded to treatment.  They think he's doing really well.  He's doing as well as can be expected."

Burry also laughed off Star's claim that the actor has made changes to his estate.  "Michael hasn't changed his will recently, and he isn't contemplating changing it," he said.
