(BILOXI, Miss.) -- Actor and former TV host Gary Collins was in a south Mississippi jail early Wednesday, charged with a felony for leaving a restaurant without paying his bill. Collins' Tuesday night dinner tab at Jazzeppi's restaurant in Biloxi was $59.35, said assistant police chief Rodney McGilvary. Restaurant employees asked Collins to pay the bill, but he left without doing so, McGilvary said.
Collins was arrested Tuesday and was charged with defrauding an innkeeper, McGilvary said. Refusing to pay a restaurant bill of more than $25 is a felony in Mississippi, according to Biloxi police. Collins was being held Wednesday on a $5,000 bond in the Harrison County Detention Center in Gulfport.
In November, Collins admitted to WAPT News in Jackson, Mississippi that he left the scene of a car crash in Jackson before police arrived. He was accused of rear-ending another car. Collins paid a $500 fine last month and the case was resolved, the actor's attorney said. The attorney who represented Collins in the Jackson case didn't immediately respond to a message Wednesday. Collins is married to Mary Anne Mobley, a former Miss America from Mississippi.
