(LOS ANGELES) -- Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia were cut in American Idol's double elimination on Thursday's results show.
Paul McDonald was in the bottom three with Adedapo and Megia, but he'll be around next week. More than 55 million votes were cast after Wednesday's performance show.
Instead of one big group performance, the American Idol contestants sang duets and trio numbers throughout the night. Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery gave the first performance of the night, covering Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis' duet version of "I Told You So." Naima Adedapo and Jacob Lusk did "Solid" by Ashford & Simpson, while Thia Megia, Haley Reinhart and Pia Toscano teamed up for Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream."
Paul McDonald, Casey James, Stefano Langone and James Durbin formed a band at the Idol mansion, and the group made its TV debut Thursday night with a cover of Paul McCartney and Wings' "Band on the Run." Judge Steven Tyler told them they could open for Aerosmith on their next tour.
The season 11 contestants also went to Arizona last week to perform at the Muhammad Ali Charity Fight Night event, where they ran into Reba McEntire and Idol champs Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson.
Season three American Idol champ Fantasia returned to the show Thursday to sing her new tune, "Collard Greens and Cornbread." Season eight winner Kris Allen was also spotted in the audience. Jamie Foxx and Will.I.Am. debuted their new single from the animated film Rio, "Hot Wings," complete with a stage full of Brazilian drummers and dancers.
American Idol's top nine contenders will perform again Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET.
