Oprah's New TV Network OWN Set for New Year's Day Launch

Photo Courtesy - PRNewsFoto/ Discovery Communications, George Burns(CHICAGO) -- Oprah Winfrey's network, OWN, launches this Saturday, Jan. 1.

Winfrey, who'll end her long-running daytime show later in 2011, doesn't plan on being a major on-camera presence on OWN, but will appear in about 70 hours worth of programming a year.  One show where you can catch her is Oprah's Next Chapter, a weekly series chronicling Winfrey's world travels.  OWN will also air old episodes of The Oprah Winfrey Show, in the hopes of following up with guests.

Winfrey has also enlisted several high-profile stars to lend a hand with the network.  Dr. Phil, Suze Orman and Dr. Oz -- personalities who became stars after appearing on Winfrey's daytime show -- will return the favor by taking part in Ask Oprah's All Stars, in which they answer viewers' questions relating to their fields of expertise.

Another show heavy on A-listers is Master Class.  Stars like Simon Cowell, Sidney Poitier, Maya Angelou, Diane Sawyer and Winfrey herself will discuss their personal highs and lows and open up about their life lessons.

Winfrey's longtime best friend, Gayle King, will also have her own show, as will Shania Twain, Lisa Ling, Ryan and Tatum O'Neal, The Judds and Rosie O'Donnell.  O'Donnell, whose program will premiere in the fall, says OWN is bound to be a hit because Winfrey "has a standard of excellence" and "nothing she has done has ever failed."
