(LOS ANGELES) -- There was a lot of activity at the box office over the weekend. The horror flick Paranormal Activity 2 earned an estimated $41.5 million from Friday through Sunday to debut in first place.
According to Variety, the sequel raised $6.3 million from Thursday night midnight screenings, a record for an R-rated movie. The previous box office champion, Jackass 3D, slipped to second place, collecting $21.6 million. In its first weekend in wide release, the Clint Eastwood-directed drama Hereafter finished in the fourth spot, with $12 million.
