"Paranormal Activity 4" Debuts at Number One with $30 Million

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Business was "normal" at the box office over the weekend.

The horror sequel Paranormal Activity 4 opened in first place, earning an estimated $30.2 million.

Taken 2, which was number one the previous two weekends, tumbled to the fourth spot, with $13.4 million.

The weekend's other wide release, Alex Cross, was a disappointment.  The thriller, starring Tyler Perry in the titular role, debuted in fifth place, collecting $11.8 million.

Here are the top 10 movies from Friday through Sunday, with estimated ticket sales, according to Hollywood.com:

1. Paranormal Activity 4, $30.2 million
2. Argo, $16.6 million
3. Hotel Transylvania, $13.5 million
4. Taken 2, $13.4 million
5. Alex Cross, $11.8 million
6. Sinister, $9 million
7. Here Comes the Boom, $8.5 million
8. Pitch Perfect, $7 million
9. Frankenweenie, $4.4 million
10. Looper, $4.2 million

"Paranormal Activity 4," "Alex Cross," "The Sessions" Open Nationwide

-- Paranormal Activity 4: In the latest sequel in the horror franchise, a creepy new neighbor is at the center of terrifying events.  Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman star.  Rated R.

-- Alex Cross: Tyler Perry stars as author James Patterson's titular character, a detective who's after a serial killer named Picasso.  Matthew Fox plays the villain.  Rated PG-13.  [Click here to read a review]

And opening in limited release:

-- The Sessions: John Hawkes is a 38-year-old man confined to an iron lung who makes an effort to lose his virginity.  Helen Hunt and William H. Macy also star in this drama.  Rated R.
