Patrick Dempsey Leading Group to Buy Bankrupt Coffeehouse Chain

Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic(SEATTLE) -- It's a dream come true for Tully's Coffee -- or, to be more precise, a "McDreamy" come true.

Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd on the ABC series, says he's leading a group that's hoping to buy the Seattle-based coffeehouse chain, which has filed for bankruptcy and employs about 500 people.

In a statement obtained by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Dempsey says, "I’m excited about the opportunity to save hundreds of jobs, give back to Seattle and become a larger part of the economic growth and fabric of the community."

Dempsey's character on Grey's Anatomy works at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital.

A bankruptcy court hearing will be held in Seattle next month.

Patrick Dempsey Rescues Teen from Car Wreck

Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Patrick Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy, was able to put his emergency response skills to the test in an unscripted situation.  The actor pulled a teenager to safety after the young man's car flipped over near the star's home in Malibu, California last week. The teen, named Weston Masset told ABC News, "I was scared for my life.  I was upside down."  Dempsey saw the car wreck and he used a crowbar to pry the car doors open.

The teen's first words to Dempsey when the actor arrived on the scene were, "Are you famous?" Dempsey, who was not wearing scrubs at the time, responded, "Yeah, I'm a doctor," Masset explained.  Dempsey then called paramedics, who arrived and airlifted Masset to the hospital.  The teen was lucky to suffer only an eye injury and a concussion.

Patrick Dempsey Saves Teen’s Life

Photo by Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- Patrick Dempsey, who plays neurosurgeon Dr. Derek Shepherd on the hit show “Grey’s Anatomy,” not only saves lives on television but also in real life.

Dempsey pulled a teenage boy to safety after his car flipped over near the star’s home in Malibu, Calif. last week.

“I was scared for my life, I was upside down,” said Weston Masset.

Masset was barely conscious and trapped inside the twisted wreck of his car.

But Dempsey saw the car flip and used a crow bar to pry the doors open. He pulled the teenager to safety and called paramedics, who airlifted Masset to the hospital.

Miraculously, Masset suffered only a concussion and an eye injury.

His first words on seeing Dempsey pulling him out of the wreck were, “‘Are you famous?” and Dempsey said, “Yeah I’m a doctor,” Masset said.

Dempsey called the boy’s mother to inform her of the situation.

“He had a certain authority in his voice,” said Masset’s mother Mary Beth Masset. “I asked if he was a paramedic and he said no, ‘this is Patrick Dempsey.’”

“I’m just super grateful. I can’t wait to thank him personally,” said Mary Beth Masset.

Patrick Dempsey Leaving 'Grey's Anatomy' Next Year?

ABC/RON TOM(LOS ANGELES) -- "McDreamy" is leaving Grey's Anatomy next year.  Maybe.

Patrick Dempsey, who has played Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy since it began in 2005, says he will depart the ABC series after its eighth season.

He reportedly told the Italian edition of Vanity Fair, "I do not know what's going to happen to the other characters, but for me it's done."  He further stated that his exit will be "bittersweet because it's been great and a great part of my life.  But I can't see me doing it anymore."

Despite the comments, Dempsey's publicist claims the actor hasn't made a decision regarding his future with Grey's Anatomy.

The rep told Entertainment Weekly, "He was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds."

If Dempsey were to leave Grey's Anatomy, he'd presumably focus more on his movie career. Most recently, he's starred in the films Enchanted, Made of Honor, and Valentine's Day, and also appears in the upcoming Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Patrick Dempsey Hoping for 'Strange' Role

Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Patrick Dempsey wants to go from playing a doctor on Grey's Anatomy to playing Marvel hero Doctor Strange. The Los Angeles Times reports Dempsey is pushing hard to play the surgeon-turned-sorcerer, who was brought to life by Marvel's dynamic duo Stan Lee and Steve Ditko back in 1963.

Dempsey is hoping a big-screen turn in Transformers: Dark of the Moon will make studio heads see him as a movie hero: "Hopefully, doing something like Transformers is about to show myself in an action situation where I'm not mister-weepy-doctor guy, you know, not McDreamy. You have to change people's view," he told the Times. "I'd love to play Doctor Strange."

There have been several attempts over the years to bring the hero to theaters, and there was even a 1978 TV movie, but now -- with movies starring Marvel heroes Captain America and the rest of the Avengers on the way -- the doctor could finally be in.
