Paul McDonald: First Guy Voted Off 'American Idol' This Season

PRNewsFoto/Zumobi(LOS ANGELES) -- After more than 53 million votes cast in this week, Paul McDonald is the first guy to go home on American Idol this season.

Judge Jennifer Lopez requested McDonald sing Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" as his farewell song on Thursday night's results show.  Haley Reinhart and Stefano Langone were in the bottom three with McDonald, but they'll be around next week.

Once again, the contestants performed in duos and trios before hearing their results.  Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery opened the show with a performance of Lady Antebellum's "American Honey."  Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams teamed up for a performance of the jazz song "Moanin'," and Jacob Lusk, James Durbin, Stefano Langone and Paul McDonald delivered a medley of the Simon & Garfunkel songs "The Sound of Silence" and "Mrs. Robinson."

Movie director Rob Reiner visited the contestants this week to help them prepare for this week's Music from the Movies theme.

Season one American Idol champ Kelly Clarkson returned to sing her number-one country hit "Don't You Wanna Stay" with Jason Aldean.  Rihanna was on hand, too, singing her latest single, "California King Bed," backed by dancers clad in white dancing around white sheets hanging about the stage.

American Idol's top seven will compete for the nation's vote Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
