Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen Split

VALERY HACHE/AFP/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Rachel McAdams and longtime boyfriend Michael Sheen have split.

The Midnight in Paris co-stars started dating after they finished filming the Woody Allen film in October 2010, but couldn't make it work, US Weekly reports.

In happier times last year, McAdams, 34, told The Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine that "Michael and I never spend more than three weeks apart -- we rack up a lot of air miles -- but you have to be quite adaptable in this business whether you are in a relationship or not."

McAdams told Glamour magazine that she fell in love with Sheen, 44, after they wrapped the Allen film because, "A set may seem like a good place for romance, but I don’t think it’s very conducive; it's too distracting."

"Every relationship I've had with a co-worker has come after the fact, because you wind up actually spending a lot of time with those people promoting the movie," she explained.

Previously, McAdams dated and was briefly engaged to her Notebook costar Ryan Gosling. Sheen had an eight-year relationship with Kate Beckinsale, which resulted in the birth of a now teenage daughter, Lily.

Ryan Gosling: Bullock and McAdams 'Two of the Greatest Girlfriends of All Time'

Todd Williamson/WireImage(LONDON) -- Ryan Gosling has been romantically linked to Eva Mendes this month, but he'll always hold a special place in his heart for ex-girlfriends Sandra Bullock and Rachel McAdams. Speaking to Britain's The Times, the 30-year-old Drive star says, “I had two of the greatest girlfriends of all time. I haven’t met anybody who could top them." Gosling dated Bullock in 2002-2003 and McAdams on and off between 2004 and 2008.

Gosling points out that it's not easy dating a fellow celebrity. He says, "Show business is the bad guy. When both people are in show business it’s too much show business. It takes all of the light, so nothing else can grow.” He adds, “I’d like to be making babies but I’m not, so I’m making movies. When someone comes along I don’t think I’ll be able to do both and I’m fine with that. I’ll make movies until I make babies. I have no idea when the handover will happen.”

Michael Sheen Reveals Romance with Co-Star Rachel McAdams

George Pimentel/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- Tuesday night at the New York premiere of Woody Allen's new movie, Midnight in Paris, Michael Sheen, one of the film's stars, publicly acknowledged for the first time his real-life romance with co-star Rachel McAdams.

Last week, at the Cannes film festival, McAdams and Sheen were seen arm and arm on the red carpet. Tuesday night, miles from the media frenzy in the French Riviera in an intimate basement at the Tribeca Grand Hotel, when asked about McAdams, Sheen told ABC News, "We've been a couple for a while now."

Inspired by the romantic sights while filming on location in France, Sheen admitted that, "I'm sure [Paris sparked our romance]. That's where we met...[and] got to know each other but … [we didn't start dating until] much later on…in her home city of Toronto."

It is not the first time in recent years that two actors have fallen in love after filming a Woody Allen movie. Oscar winners Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem starred in Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2008, were married last July, and recently gave birth to their first son, Leo.
