Rashida Jones Apologizes for Urging John Travolta to 'Come Out'

C Flanigan/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- In a recent interview for her latest film, actress Rashida Jones said it was high time for a movie star to come out of the closet, and she urged John Travolta to “come out.”

The 36-year-old Parks and Recreation star made the pronouncement during an interview last Friday with the Bay Area website Spinning Platters.

When her co-star and co-writer of the film Celeste and Jesse Forever, Will McCormack, said in the interview, “There needs to be, like, a professional athlete that comes out,” Jones chimed in, “And a movie star!”

“Like John Travolta?” Jones added.  “Come out!  Come on.  How many masseurs have to come forward? Let’s do this.”

Jones issued an apology to Travolta on Tuesday via Twitter.

“Made a thoughtless comment about John Travolta. I sincerely apologize. Nobody’s personal life is my business,” she wrote on her Twitter account.

Travolta was sued earlier this year by two male massage therapists who claimed the actor tried to have sex with them during massage sessions.  Travolta’s publicist called the suits “complete fiction and fabrication,” and the two masseurs later dropped their complaints.

Jones made the remarks while proclaiming her admiration for rapper Frank Ocean, who recently revealed that his first love was a man.

Rashida Jones Recalls a Carefree Michael Jackson

Neilson Barnard/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Growing up in Hollywood as the child of famous parents proved to be very interesting for Rashida Jones. The star of Parks and Recreation tells the November issue of Playboy that one of her close friends when she was a kid was none other than Michael Jackson. Her father, Quincy Jones, produced several of Jackson’s albums including Off the Wall and Thriller.

In the interview, Rashida reveals the two would often go looking for trouble, and recalls one incident when they got together with Webster star Emmanuel Lewis.

Rashida says Michael "was definitely a little bit of an alien, for sure, and when I was young, it felt as if he was my age, not 18 years older, but with just a little bit more pep. Later, we'd go out on the town together. He always wore those surgical masks. Once, my sister, Michael, Emmanuel Lewis and I got in a car with Super Soakers and went by a movie theater and super-soaked the hell out of people waiting outside in line. They had no idea they'd just been super-soaked by the King of Pop."
