(LOS ANGELES) -- In the battle at the box office, one film demolished the competition. Battle: Los Angeles beat the other movies and expectations, pulling in an estimated $36 million, $9 million more than some predicted. The alien invasion movie didn't get great reviews from critics, but is averaging a B rating from moviegoers, according to CinemaScore.
The animated Johnny Depp lizard western Rango held strong in its second week, coming in second, followed by Red Riding Hood and The Adjustment Bureau.
It was a disappointing opening for Mars Needs Moms. It's fifth place, estimated $7 million was $10 million less than some had predicted.
