'Rio' Helps Box Office Bounce Back

Ryan McVay/Thinkstock(LOS ANGELES) -- After a dismal few weeks, box office ticket sales came back strong, led by the 3-D film, Rio.

The Fox animated film, which stars the voices of Jesse Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Tracy Morgan and George Lopez, topped the weekend box office, raking in $40 million. Coming in second over the weekend was Scream 4, with $19.3 million.

Hop ($11.2 million), Soul Surfer ($7.4 million) and Hanna ($7.3 million) rounded out the top five at the box office, in that order.

Movie Review: 'Scream 4'

AbleStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Ten years later, Neve Campbell's tragic Sidney Prescott returns to the town of Woodsboro as a "celebrity victim," and author of a book about her experiences.

In the meantime, the kids of Woodsboro High are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the murders with a "Stab" festival -- "Stab" being the title of the seven movies based on Gale Weather's (Courteney Cox) best-selling book about the murders.

These days, Gale, married to Dewey (David Arquette), is suffering from writer's block. Lucky for her, Sidney's return coincides with the return of Ghostface, which means more murders to solve.

Scream 4 doesn't disappoint, and in some cases goes beyond expectations for a franchise that seemed dead and buried 11 years ago.

One of the familiar young actresses gives a breakout performance, but to say who could be construed as a spoiler.

This is probably the second best Scream in the series.

Three-and-a-half out of five stars.
