(LOS ANGELES) -- Lindsay Lohan says she didn't steal a necklace that disappeared from a Venice, California store on Jan. 22, which she was allegedly spotted wearing.
Insiders tell TMZ someone loaned the piece to the Mean Girls star. She claims she returned it to a stylist, who failed to bring it back to the store. The actress also says the stylist in question brought the necklace to the police on Tuesday night after cops received a warrant that gave them permission to search Lohan's home for the item. Police on Wednesday reportedly turned over their findings in the investigation to Los Angeles prosecutors.
The claim of someone loaning Lohan the $2,500 necklace conflicts with a new RadarOnline report that cites a law enforcement source as saying the actress is seen on store surveillance video wearing the bling, and not paying for it.
The law enforcement insider tells the website, “The surveillance video clearly shows Lindsay Lohan taking the necklace from the store.” The insider goes on to state, “Law enforcement believe the video will prove that the actress took the necklace, because it doesn’t, at any point, show her paying for the item.”
The source tells RadarOnline, “This doesn’t appear to be a miscommunication between two people, as Lindsay is claiming. Lindsay says she borrowed the necklace, the evidence just doesn’t support Lindsay’s story.”
According to TMZ, police informed the Los Angeles County Probation Department on Tuesday night of its investigation. Though Lohan met with her probation officer on Wednesday, TMZ says the alleged necklace theft was not a topic of discussion. Instead, she underwent a drug test.
