Jewish Group Calls Seth MacFarlane "Ted" Joke at Oscars 'Offensive'

Kevin Winter/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Count the Anti-Defamation League among Seth MacFarlane's post-Oscars critics.

The group, which fights anti-Semitism, says a joke that the Oscars host made at Sunday night's ceremony was "offensive" to Jewish people.

The ADL is bothered by the segment in which MacFarlane's animated teddy bear character, Ted, and Mark Wahlberg presented the awards for sound mixing and sound editing.  MacFarlane, voicing Ted, joked that Jewish people control the movie industry.

The national director for the ADL, Abraham H. Foxman, said in a statement, "While we have come to expect inappropriate 'Jews control Hollywood' jokes from Seth MacFarlane, what he did at the Oscars was offensive and not remotely funny.  It only reinforces stereotypes which legitimize anti-Semitism.  It is sad and disheartening that the Oscars awards show sought to use anti-Jewish stereotypes for laughs."

MacFarlane's performance as host has also been picked apart by some critics for being too sexist or racist.
