(NEW YORK) -- Billboard has launched a brand-new chart called the Social 50, which determines an artist's popularity by aggregating his or her weekly artist page views, weekly song plays on sites like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, iLike, and MySpace and, most importantly, the number of fans, friends, and followers he or she has on various social networking sites.
The resulting chart gives us, as Billboard puts it, "a weekly snapshot of the artists that music fans engage with the most in the social arena," which "is a significant validation of their investment in an act."
Rihanna has scored the top spot on the very first chart. She's amassed the most new friends, fans and followers for the past week, and also racked up plenty of page views.
In at number two is Justin Bieber, followed by Eminem, Lady Gaga, and Nicki Minaj. The rest of the top ten on the inaugural Social 50 are, in descending order, Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Linkin Park, and Shakira.
