(LOS ANGELES) -- Openly gay actress Leisha Hailey maintains she did not kiss her female partner in an inappropriate manner before they were removed from a Southwest Airlines flight on Monday.
Hailey, a former star of the TV series The L Word, and Camila Grey, her partner and bandmate in the group Uh Huh Her, released a statement Tuesday in which they said they "were not making out or creating any kind of spectacle of ourselves" on the flight leaving from El Paso, Texas, for Los Angeles.
They said, "[I]t was one, modest kiss. We are responsible adult women who walk through the world with dignity. We were simply being affectionate like any normal couple."
Hailey and Grey say that while they take full responsibility for "getting verbally upset" with the flight attendant who allegedly told them before they got kicked off the plane that Southwest was a family airline, they are not apologizing for the incident. They say they are in the process of filing a formal complaint with the airline.
After releasing their statement, the couple denied via their band's Twitter account that their dispute with Southwest was merely a publicity stunt.
Southwest has said it received several passenger complaints regarding "excessive" behavior by Hailey and Grey.
