Is Russell Brand Dating Spice Girl Geri Halliwell?

Tommaso Boddi/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Russell Brand is going from a California gurl to a spice girl.  The Sun quotes a source as saying Brand and Geri Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice, are involved in a “very serious” romance.

The report says Brand fell for Halliwell while they both were attending rehearsals for the closing ceremonies of the London Olympics.

“I’ve got a crush on Geri Halliwell -- everything in the world is how it should be,” Brand said after the finale.

The Sun says the actor dumped Isabella Brewster, the younger sister of Dallas and Fast & Furious actress Jordana Brewster, earlier this month so he could be with Halliwell.  Brand and Katy Perry divorced earlier this year.

The Sun reports Brand and Halliwell have gone on a number of dates, including an outing this past weekend that included the 40-year-old Spice Girl’s 6-year-old daughter, Bluebell Madonna.

A close friend of the 37-year-old Brand tells the tabloid, “Things are getting very serious between them --they’re a proper couple now.  They had met several times in the past, but really got to know each other during the Olympics.”

The pal continues, “They just clicked -- they have so much in common.  He is spending so much more time in London just to be with her.”

Halliwell appears to have changed her view of Brand since an encounter backstage at a 2008 Spice Girls show when she declared, “He’s really funny and intelligent but not the type of man I go for.”

Halliwell said of Brand’s appearance, “I’d love to shave off all that crazy hair.”

Spice Girls Dazzle at London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony

Fred Duval/FilmMagic(LONDON) -- The closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics brought a dash of traditional British pomp and culminated with a number of performances by English pop and rock super stars and a show-stopper by the Spice Girls.

In contrast to director Danny Boyle’s divisive opening ceremony, which featured performances from Paul McCartney, rapper Dizzee Rascal and rockers the Arctic Monkeys, the closing event had the vibe of Britain’s famed and diverse music festivals.  It featured performances by 1980s pop mainstays Madness and the Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, modern rockers The Kaiser Chiefs, singer Annie Lennox and many more.

It was the reunited Spice Girls that made the biggest splash at Sunday night’s event, which was viewed by an estimated 300 million people around the world and 80,000 fans at Olympic Stadium.

Melanie Chisholm (“Sporty Spice”), Emma Bunton (“Baby Spice”), Melanie Brown (“Scary Spice”), Victoria Beckham (“Posh Spice”), and Geri Halliwell (“Ginger Spice”) arrived via multicolored taxis into the center of the stadium, the floor of which was arranged to resemble the Union Jack.

The reunited pop stars surprised audiences by performing a medley of their megahits “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life” as they stood atop their taxis and circled the stadium, dazzling fans who helped make them one of the most popular worldwide acts of the late 1990s.

In addition to the aforementioned artists, London 2012′s closing ceremony also featured comic Eric Idle performing “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” which was originally featured in the 1979 film Monty Python’s Life of Brian.  The track is a popular sing-along in the United Kingdom.

Many more acts turned up to perform at the stunning closing event, including One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Russell Brand, Fatboy Slim, Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, Taio Cruz, Liam Gallagher and Beady Eye, Take That, Muse, Bryan May, The Kinks’ Ray Davies, and The Who, performing hits “Baba O’Riley”, “See Me, Feel Me”, and “My Generation.”

At the end of the ceremony, London Mayor Boris Johnson passed the Olympic Flag to Rio de Janero’s Mayor Eduardo Paes.  The Brazilian city will host the 2016 summer games.

Spice Girls Musical to Open in London -- It's been in the works for several years, but now Spice Girls fans who really really really wanna ziggah-zig-AH! will be able to enjoy the music of their heroines once again, in a stage musical set to open in London this December.  All five Spice Girls reunited in London on Tuesday in the same hotel where they filmed their breakthrough video, "Wannabe," to make the announcement.

The BBC reports that the musical will be called Viva Forever!, and rather than being a biography of Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell, it'll use the Spice Girls' music to explore "the bitter reality of fame" brought on by a TV talent show.  Specifically, the show is" "the story of a beautiful, talented girl and her best friends who get swept up in the obsession of today's TV celebrity culture," according to the producer.

"We're going to be introducing a whole new generation to Girl Power," said Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham.  Melanie "Sporty Spice" Chisholm added, "To have our songs performed night after night in a theater is an honor for us."

The musical is the brainchild of Judy Craymer, who also produced the monster hit ABBA musical Mamma Mia!, another production that uses a collection of pop hits to tell an original story.  Viva Forever! was written by Jennifer Saunders, the British comedienne best known for her role as Edina in the TV comedy Absolutely Fabulous.

Viva Forever! will open December 11 on London's West End.

Spice Girls Reuniting for Queen Elizabeth II Celebration?

Fred Duval/FilmMagic(LONDON) -- In 2007 and 2008, the Spice Girls reunited for a successful tour. They may join forces again on June 4 for the Diamond Jubilee celebration at London’s Buckingham Palace, marking the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s ascension to the throne.

According to Britain’s The Sun, Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown was asked by an Australian TV program if the girl group would reunite for the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in London this year. She replied, “I think the Queen’s Jubilee concert is the event I’d be looking at more closely for that to happen.”

Later, she reportedly told the production crew off-camera, “I am going to be in such strife for saying that. It’s all so totally bloody top-secret still.”

Despite Brown’s reported remarks, the Daily Mirror claims Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham isn’t eager to perform as a Spice Girl again.

A source tells the UK newspaper, “All the girls are desperate for some Spice action except Posh who is simply too busy -- she loves the girls and wants to support them and the fans but doesn’t see how she has the time when her fashion business is so successful.”
