(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) -- To the likely surprise of no one, Randy and Evi Quaid are continuing to evade U.S. authorities. The couple blew off a scheduled court hearing for their felony vandalism arraignment on Tuesday in Santa Barbara, California. Due to the no-show, Evi forfeited her $500,000 bail, reports People.com. A new bench warrant in the same amount was issued for her, and a warrant for Randy was also issued. However, Randy’s warrant was held on the condition that he appears for the couple's next hearing on November 16th. The judge also kept Randy’s $500,000 bail in place because the couple’s attorney informed him that Randy was required to remain in Canada for an immigration hearing there on November 8th.
The Quaids are seeking refugee status in Canada because they claim a cult called "star whackers" is trying to assassinate them and has followed their every move in person, online and on the phone. Canadian authorities are deciding whether to grant them asylum or return them to the U.S. to face various criminal charges, including squatting in and damaging a Montecito, California home they previously owned.
