(NEW YORK) -- ABC is expected to announce on Sunday at the Summer TV Press Tour 2011 that the upcoming season of "Desperate Housewives" will be the show's last.
The show's first season, which premiered in 2004, averaged over 20 million viewers. The series became a pop cultural phenomenon, sending its actresses -- especially Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, and Felicity Huffmann -- onto the A-list. The show inspired the controversial "Real Housewives" reality show on Bravo.
The eighth season is set to premiere in September.
