'Swamp People' Star in Jail for Allegedly Attacking Police Officer

Comstock Images/Thinkstock(NEW ORLEANS) -- A man who has appeared on the History Channel reality series Swamp People is currently being held without bond in a Louisiana jail after he was arrested last month for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

The New Orleans’ Times-Picayune reports Nicholas L. Payne was jailed September 23 in connection with an incident that began when the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a disturbance at a home.  Deputies arrived and learned from a woman who identified herself as Payne’s wife that he had been making noise because he’d been locked out of the residence.

An hour later, the sheriff’s office received another call regarding Payne and the woman. Payne allegedly struck a responding deputy in the chest and fled, but was chased down and arrested by another officer. The sheriff’s office subsequently learned that Payne had an outstanding arrest warrant in Florida, stemming from a missed court appearance regarding possession of drug paraphernalia.

Payne, 26, is jailed on charges of disturbing the peace, battery of a police officer, resisting arrest, and being a fugitive from another state. Swamp People documents the lives of alligator hunters at a Louisiana swamp.
