Katie Couric's Talk Show Gets a Name

ABC/RICK ROWELL(NEW YORK) -- Katie Couric’s upcoming ABC daytime talk show has finally been given a name.

Producers have decided to keep things simple and name the show Katie, according to a promotional picture released by the network.  A tagline accompanying the picture reads: "The Opportunity Begins September 6th."

The daytime talk show, which will reportedly tackle topical news, and general interest stories and interviews, will debut next month, as the legend suggests.

Anderson Cooper to Show Off Personality on New Talk Show

Jordan Strauss/WireImage/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Anderson Cooper says viewers will see a new side of him when he launches his syndicated daytime talk show this fall. Speaking with reporters in Beverly Hills this week to promote his new show, titled Anderson, the CNN newsman said it will be partly about "learning about viewers more, and viewers learning about me more. And where that goes, I don't really know."

Cooper says his show will delve into topics ranging from pop culture to "provocative" social issues. Oprah Winfrey's talk show was similarly diverse, and though Cooper will fill her old time slot in many markets, he says he's not trying to replace her. He says he admires the work of Oprah as well as other daytime personalities such as Regis Philbin, Kelly Ripa and Ellen DeGeneres.

Katie Couric Joins ABC to Host Syndicated Talk Show

ABC/Heidi Gutman(NEW YORK) -- Katie Couric is headed to ABC. For weeks, it was rumored that the veteran journalist was nearing a deal with the network, and on Monday the Disney/ABC Television Group made it official, calling the deal a multi-year, multi-platform agreement.

Couric will host and produce her own nationally syndicated talk show that will debut in Sept. 2012.

"We hope it will be a topical show dealing with all sorts of compelling, important issues," Couric told ABC News Radio on Monday, "and we hope it will be a lot of fun as well."

"This will be one place where you can go to make sense of a very complicated world and figure out ways that you can feel elevated and...improve the quality of your life," Couric said.

She will also contribute to ABC News platforms starting this summer.

"I'm very happy to be returning to the network where I began my career as a desk assistant in 1979," Couric said in a statement. "It is tremendously exciting to have the creative freedom to develop my own show...and to contribute to such a vibrant, innovative news division. I can't wait to be part of this incredibly talented, visionary team."

The network said that Couric's still-unnamed show has already been confirmed to air at 3 p.m. in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Raleigh/Durham, N.C., and Fresno, Calif.  It will be produced by Couric's former Today show boss, Jeff Zucker.

In a statement, Disney/ABC Television Group president Anne Sweeney called Couric "one of television's iconic figures" and said "we are thrilled to have forged such an exciting partnership with her."

Couric stepped down as anchor of the CBS Evening News last month.
