Katy Perry Closing In on Michael Jackson Chart Record

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Katy Perry is getting dangerously close to matching a chart record set by Michael Jackson.

Her new single "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)" is now at number four.  If it reaches number one, according to Yahoo! Chart Watch, it will be the fifth number one hit from Perry's album Teenage Dream.

The only other album in history to produce five number one hits was Jackson's 1987 release Bad.  Those chart-toppers were "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man in the Mirror," and "Dirty Diana."

While she's waiting to tie the King of Pop, Perry is also celebrating the success of her previous single, "E.T."  It just reached the four-million-downloads mark this week, her fifth song ever to do so.  No other artist has ever had that many songs reach the four million sales mark.

'Teenage Dream' May Be Biggest Weekly 'Glee' Single

Photo Courtesy - 20th Century Fox(NEW YORK) -- Katy Perry loves it, and it seems the rest of the world does, too.  Billboard reports the Glee cast's version of Perry's hit "Teenage Dream" has sold so many downloads it could set a record for the best-ever sales week for a Glee song.

Billboard says the track may hit 150,000 to 175,000 downloads by Sunday.  The day it was released -- this past Tuesday -- it notched higher first-day sales than any prior Glee song -- 55,000 downloads.

If that trend continues, "Teenage Dream" may be the show's first top 10 single since it's very first release -- a 2009 cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin," which debuted at number four on the Billboard Hot 100.  That song sold 177,000 copies in its first week and so far, it's been the show's only top 10 hit out of 89 chart entries.

Katy Perry to Announce Tour Details Monday

Guess what [the tour is called]....?"  She's not saying, for now.

Meanwhile, the next single from Perry's album Teenage Dream, "Firework," is available now, but the title track is still going strong.  In fact, "Teenage Dream" just hit number one on Billboard's Radio Songs chart.

Katy Perry's Ex Responds to Song She Allegedly Wrote About Him

Photo Courtesy - Capitol RecordsIn one of the tracks off her album Teenage Dream, called "Circle the Drain," Katy Perry takes a boyfriend to task for, among other things, falling asleep during sex and abusing pills.  She also sings, "Wanna be your lover/Not your [expletive] mother" and "You think you're so rock 'n roll/But you're really just a joke/Had the world in the palm of your hands/But you [expletive] choked."

The song is assumed to be about Perry's ex-boyfriend, Travie McCoy, who in 2008 went into rehab for an addiction to pills.  Now, he's finally responded to the song.

MTV reports that when they asked McCoy about the song last week, he admitted that he hadn't heard it, but he still had an opinion about it.  He told MTV, "I heard she put out a song that's about me, or about some old habits or whatever.  I look at it like this: I'm just stoked that she finally has a song with some substance on her record.  Good job."
