The Cars Release Clip of New Song

Photo Courtesy - Elektra Records(NEW YORK) -- The Cars have released a clip of a brand new track called "Sad Song" from their forthcoming album.  The band released the clip on their Facebook page, which is where they seem to be releasing new material for the time being.

They previously released a clip of their first new song, "Blue Tip," back in October, as well as a photo of them rehearsing in a studio.

The Cars -- Ric Ocasek, guitarist Elliot Easton, drummer David Robinson and keyboardist Greg Hawkes -- first started posting material online back in June of this year.  Hawkes is filling in for original bassist Benjamin Orr, who died in 2000.

Ric Ocasek Confirms New Cars Album

Photo Courtesy - Elektra Records(NEW YORK) -- Ric Ocasek has confirmed what many websites have been buzzing about -- the release of a new album from The Cars.  Ocasek said to Showbiz411.com that the album "actually sounds like a modern version of the Cars."

A clip from "Blue Tip," one of the songs on the CD,  has already been posted on the band's official Facebook page.  Ocasek also added that he was "amazed at how we clicked when we got back together."

All of the surviving original members -- guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson -- are playing on this new album.  Bassist Benjamin Orr died in 2000.

The last album to come from The Cars was 1987's Door to Door, just before the band broke up in February of 1988.  Ocasek went on to produce albums for bands including Weezer, No Doubt, Bad Brains and Nada Surf.

The Cars Reunite for First New Album in 23 Years; Tour Possible

File photo. Ric Ocasek of The Cars. Photo Courtesy - Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The four surviving original members of The Cars, -- Ric Ocasek, guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson -- have reunited and will be releasing their first new studio album in 23 years.  The band posted a snippet of a new song called "Blue Tip" at their official Facebook page on October 13, but offered no reason as to why they posted it.  The post sparked speculation of a reunion.  Billboard.com reports The Cars are releasing a new album and may follow it up with a tour.

The Cars split up in 1988 after releasing their sixth studio album, Door to Door, in 1987.  Efforts to reunite were attempted in 2005 when Easton and Hawkes formed the New Cars with Todd Rundgren, Kasim Sulton and Prairie Prince.
