(ST. LOUIS) -- An openly gay actress who starred on the TV series The L Word says she was removed from a Southwest Airlines flight Monday for kissing her female partner.
Leisha Hailey tweeted, "Flt. attendant said that it was a 'family' airline and kissing was not ok."
She wrote that she and her partner were escorted off the plane "for getting upset about the issue."
Hailey demanded a refund and a public apology from Southwest Airlines, adding, "Hate is not a family value. I will never fly this airline."
After the Twitter account for her music group, Uh Huh Her, retweeted what she wrote, Southwest Airlines tweeted an apology and ask her to contact them so it could look into the matter.
However, the airline later said in a statement obtained by TMZ.com, "Initial reports indicate that we received several passenger complaints characterizing the behavior as excessive. Our crew, responsible for the comfort of all Customers on board, approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender. "
Hailey played Alice Pieszecki on The L Word. Her recent TV credits include CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Drop Dead Diva and American Dad!
