"The Lone Ranger" Trailer Debuts

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- A trailer for the much-hyped movie The Lone Ranger hit the Internet on Wednesday.  It offers brief glimpses of Armie Hammer as the titular hero, in action while wearing the Lone Ranger's trademark mask.

There isn't much dialogue in the trailer, aside from the following line by the Lone Ranger's Native American sidekick, Tonto, played by Johnny Depp: "There come a time, Kemosabe...when good man must wear mask."

The Lone Ranger, which also stars Tom Wilkinson and Helena Bonham Carter, was helmed by Depp's Pirates of the Caribbean director, Gore Verbinski.  It opens next July.

Whoa! Production Shut Down on Johnny Depp's 'The Lone Ranger' Movie

MARTIN BUREAU/AFP/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Disney has shut down production on The Lone Ranger movie that was to star Johnny Depp and The Social Network's Armie Hammer, according to Variety.

Disney reportedly made the move because the film's budget was between $250 million and $275 million -- far more than the $200 million the company wanted to spend.  However, Variety reports production is being halted only temporarily while those costs are brought under control, meaning the budget will likely be cut.

Hammer is set to play the titular character, with Depp filling the role of the Lone Ranger's sidekick, Tonto.  Helena Bonham Carter and Dwight Yoakam are also attached to the film, which was scheduled to be released on Dec. 21, 2012.

The Lone Ranger is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and would be directed by Gore Verbinski, who previously worked with Depp on three Pirates of the Caribbean films, as well as the animated hit Rango.
