Julie Andrews, The Ramones Win Lifetime Grammy Awards

Photo Courtesy - Getty Images (LOS ANGELES) -- An award bestowed upon some of the music industry's finest was given out Saturday night, and recipients included famed actress Julie Andrews and punk group The Ramones, among many others.

The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, given to "performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording," was also given to Roy Haynes, the Juilliard String Quartet, the Kingston Trio, Dolly Parton, and George Beverly Shea.

Andrews rose to prominence through films such as Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, after emigrating from England. In more recent years, he has appeared in The Princess Diaries and lent her voice to the animated series Shrek.

The Ramones, a Queens, N.Y.-based rock group, is credited for beginning the emergence of the punk rock genre. Some of their singles such as "Blitzkrieg Bop" and "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" are known worldwide. Current groups such as the Foo Fighters and The Strokes credit The Ramones as an inspiration.

The Ramones to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Grammys

Photo Courtesy - Rhino/Wea(SANTA MONICA, Calif.) -- The Ramones are getting some respect from the folks who hand out the Grammys.  The band will be among other recipients, including Dolly Parton and Julie Andrews, honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award during Grammy week.

The award will be given during a special, invitation-only ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 12.  A formal acknowledgment of the award will be announced during the actual Grammy award ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 13 which will air on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.
