(LOS ANGELES) -- In what certainly qualifies as the first genuine shocker of the still young American Idol season, Casey Abrams received the lowest number of votes this week -- and that didn't sit at all well with the judges, who used their one save of the season on him.
After the vote announcement, Abrams began singing Ray Charles' "I Don't Need No Doctor" in order to earn the judge's save, but Randy Jackson stopped him mid-song, saying "We know who you are, Casey, we don't need to hear you sing anymore."
Steven Tyler agreed, saying, "This is crazy wrong. We've made a decision here to keep you on."
After touching on the personal challenges and the somewhat uneven performances Abrams delivered recently, Jennifer Lopez told him to get back to being a musician and encouraged him to let people feel his soul, summing up the panel's decision by declaring, "You deserve to be here."
Abrams absolutely freaked out upon learning the news, running around and hugging the judges, Ryan Seacrest and his parents. Stefano Langone and Thia Megia were in the bottom three with Abrams, but they'll be back next week.
As a result of Abrams' save, two contestants will be sent home on next week's results show.
The top 11 will once again perform on American Idol next Wednesday night at 8:00 ET on Fox.
