Train Responds to Online Petition Denouncing Boy Scouts' Ban on Gays

Schechter/NHLI via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- After over 3,000 people signed an online petition urging musical acts Train and Carly Rae Jepsen to denounce the Boy Scouts of America's national ban on gay Scouts and gay Scout leaders, Train issued a statement Friday urging the organization to end their national ban on gay membership.

Gay Eagle Scout Derek Nance launched a petition on Thursday. Train and Carly Rae Jepsen are slated to perform at the Boy Scouts of America's 2013 National Jamboree. In Train's statement, they said they would not perform unless the organization ends its national ban on gay Scouts and gay Scout leaders.

“When we booked this show for the Boy Scouts of America we were not aware of any policy barring openly gay people from participation within the organization,” Train said in the statement posted to their website. “Train strongly opposes any kind of policy that questions the equality of any American citizen. We have always seen the BSA as a great and noble organization. We look forward to participating in the Jamboree this summer, as long as they make the right decision before then.”

Carly Rae Jepsen has not yet responded to the petition or requests from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

"I'm thrilled that my petition brought the Boy Scouts' hurtful anti-gay policy to Train's attention," Nance said."More than 3,000 people are wondering, will Carly Rae Jepsen do the same?"

Train Make Chart History with 'Hey Soul Sister'

Photo Courtesy - Columbia Records(NEW YORK) -- Train's hit single "Hey Soul Sister" was one of the top-selling songs of 2010, and has sold five million copies overall.  Now, it's made some chart history, as well.

"Hey Soul Sister" has just returned to number one on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, marking its 20th week in the top spot.

Since the chart was created 50 years ago, only three other songs have spent 20 weeks or more at number one: Celine Dion's "A New Day Has Come," Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway," and the all-time champ, "Drift Away" by Uncle Kracker, which logged 28 weeks at number one in 2003.

Eminem, Train Top iTunes Year-End Sales Charts

Photo Courtesy - Shady/Aftermath/Interscope Records(NEW YORK) -- With the end of the year rapidly approaching, iTunes has released its Rewind 2010 Roundup, a look at the digital retailer’s top-selling singles and albums of the past year.  The digital retailer's number one album of the year was Eminem's Recovery.

Alex Luke, iTunes director of global music initiatives, says of Eminem, "He had an amazing year, digitally."  According to Luke, Recovery sold more digital copies in one year than any other artist in iTunes history -- over 700,000 copies.

iTunes' editorial staff also named Eminem its Artist of the Year.  But while the rapper placed two songs in iTunes' list of the top-selling songs of 2010 -- "Not Afraid" and "Love the Way You Lie" -- the number one spot on that chart went to Train's "Hey Soul Sister."

That song actually came out way back in August of 2009, but Luke explains, "Slowly, across the last 12 months, all these different audiences have discovered that's just one of those big pop songs you can't escape."  He adds, "It appeals to a very young and a very old audience, and every year the biggest records of the year are those records that kind of cross like that."

iTunes' editorial staff named B.o.B. New Artist of the Year, thanks to his hits "Airplanes" and "Nothin' on You."
