Musicians Unite for Concert to Benefit Tucson Shooting Victims

Tom Willett/Getty Images(TUCSON, Ariz.) -- Alice Cooper joined Jackson Browne, Nils Lofgren, David Crosby, Graham Nash, and other musicians Thursday night in Tucson, Arizona for a benefit concert to raise money for the victims of the Jan. 8 shootings there that left six people dead and 13 wounded, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

Organizers say an estimated 5,000 people attended the event at the Tuscon Convention Center in support of the new Fund for Civility, Respect, and Understanding.  The fund aims to promote civility and respect in public discourse and also increase awareness of mental health issues.

Browne, one of the concert organizers, says the theme of civility, respect, and understanding all boils down to being mannerly and polite to your fellow men and women.  For his part, Cooper says music helps bring people together and makes them feel better.

Other artists participating included Sam Moore of Sam and Dave, Jennifer Warnes, and Dar Williams.
