(LOS ANGELES) -- Ryan O'Neal is suing the personal assistant of his late partner Farrah Fawcett, claiming comments the assistant made to the media resulted in the University of Texas filing a suit against the actor last week.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the university is asking O'Neal to return an Andy Warhol portrait of Fawcett that it says belonged to the Charlie's Angels actress, who left her art collection to her alma mater upon her death in 2009. O'Neal now says the portrait belongs to him and that Craig Nevius falsely alleged that O'Neal stole it. O'Neal is seeking more than one million dollars in damages.
Nevius, who worked on a documentary about Fawcett's battle with cancer, tells RadarOnline.com he believes O'Neal's defamation lawsuit is an attempt to "harass me into silence." Nevius previously sued O'Neal over the documentary, claiming O'Neal interfered with his work, but the complaint was ultimately dismissed.
