John Travolta 'Excited' to Play John Gotti in New Movie

GABRIEL BOUYS/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- John Travolta's next big-screen role will be playing one of America's most notorious gangsters.  The actor recently signed a deal to play the late John Gotti in a big-screen film about the mobster who headed the Gambino crime family.  The flick will be based on the life of Gotti and his son, John Gotti Jr.

At a New York press conference Tuesday, Travolta gushed about the movie, saying, "I got especially excited about the project after I met John Gotti, Jr. because his story is fascinating and I found him to be compelling, compassionate and caring."

Joe Pesci, who will co-star in the movie, added, "It's going to be a great experience and a rare opportunity to look inside the life of Gotti."

Some of the talk at the press conference centered around Lindsay Lohan, who sat in the first row with her mother, Dina, and who is rumored for the role of Gotti's daughter, Victoria Gotti. Travolta joked that Lohan is a longtime fan of his, adding, "I've always thought she was gorgeous and talented and filled with a lot of depth so I think whatever she'd like to do would be great with me."

Producer Marc Fiore confirmed that he's talking with Lohan about joining the cast, but says there's no deal yet.

Lindsay Lohan's Career-Saver: Victoria Gotti?

AL SEIB/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Lindsay Lohan might be making a power play to get back into Hollywood's good graces.

On Tuesday, the actress posed for photographs at a New York City press conference for Gotti: Three Generations, an upcoming movie about the mob family that stars John Travolta and Joe Pesci. Nick Cassavetes has been tapped to direct.

But here's the thing: While Lohan is in talks regarding a part in the film, nothing's official yet. And she refused to answer questions about her potential role.

So why was Lohan there? Maybe because a role in a big, prestigious movie like Gotti: Three Generations would give her career -- which has floundered since her 2007 DUI arrests and the multiple rehab and jail stints that followed -- the boost it needs.

According to, Victoria Gotti specifically requested that Lohan play her in the movie instead of other possible actresses, including Blake Lively and Sienna Miller.

Will Lindsay Lohan Play Gotti's Daughter?

Stephen Dunn/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- TMZ is reporting Lindsay Lohan is close to signing her first big post-rehab movie deal. The gossip site says Lohan could play Victoria Gotti, the daughter of famed New York City Mafia figure John Gotti, in a biopic.

John Travolta recently signed a deal to play the so-called "Teflon Don" in the project, which apparently has been re-titled Gotti.

Gotti became the head of the Big Apple's powerful Gambino crime family in the 1980s, earning his slippery nickname by dodging convictions in a host of criminal cases. In 1992, he was convicted on various charges ranging from fraud to murder, and died in prison in 2002.

Victoria Gotti, 48, was reportedly never involved in the "family business."  She's probably most famous for being a writer, and as the foul-mouthed matriarch of the now-defunct reality show Growing Up Gotti.
