Record Store Day: Foo Fighters, Nirvana Lead Exclusive Releases

Stockbyte/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- April 16 may not be a national holiday, but for music fans and fans of vinyl records, it may as well be.  Saturday is the fourth annual Record Store Day, which is celebrated in independent record stores around the U.S., Canada and the U.K.  It's the one day a year when bands and artists release material on vinyl exclusively to indie record shops, with most of the records limited edition pieces.

Record Store Day founder Michael Kurtz says he's in awe of how his holiday has grown in four short years.  He speculates that so many bands want to release music on Record Store Day because "everybody's had such a great time for the first three years. It's almost like a rock festival...and now everybody wants to join the party!"

He's not joking when he says everybody.  Over 200 bands are releasing exclusive product on Saturday.  Kurtz said he's especially excited by releases from Foo Fighters, Regina Spektor, Velvet Underground, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Kings of Leon, Ozzy Osbourne, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam and Deftones, among others.

Head to RecordStoreDay.com to find the participating indie record store near you.
