Lena Dunham Denies She Didn't Vote in Presidential Election

BarackObama.com/YouTube(NEW YORK) -- Lena Dunham was a vocal supporter of President Obama during his most recent presidential campaign. Now, the Girls creator and star is speaking up to deny a report claiming she didn't vote in the election.

The political website Room Eight, citing a "New York City's voter file," made the allegation on Wednesday.

Dunham -- who appeared in a pro-Obama video last year that compared voting in an election for the first time to one losing his or her virginity -- addressed the report Thursday on Twitter, writing, "Hey kids, some people on the Internet are saying I didn't vote. Some of them are still mad I used a sexy metaphor re: voting."

The 26-year-old actress continues, "I did vote. I tried to get an absentee ballot but, because our nation's voting system is a steampunk cornmaze, it didn't arrive. So not to be a martyr about it but I flew to New York to vote. I wasn't sure if my change of address had officially been registered so I went to my old polling place with my dad, where they let me vote by affidavit ([which] was totally allowed.)"

Dunham concludes, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, "Obviously I voted for [Mitt] Romney. I hope everyone has a nice day."

A rep for the New York State Board of Elections tells E! News that Dunham's record could not be found in the state database. However, some New York residents who voted have not been not been placed in the database to date for various reasons -- for example, if they were displaced by Hurricane Sandy and they cast their ballot outside their district.

Did Beyonce Break the Law by Revealing Her Ballot on Election Day?

Kristian Dowling/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- All throughout Election Day, celebrities posted photos of themselves on various social networking sites going to the polls, and some even showed fans pictures of their filled-out ballots, including Beyonce.  But it turns out it's actually illegal to do that in some states.  So, did Beyonce break the law?  Well, actually, no.

While Beyonce lives in New York, where it is illegal to show off your completed ballot, what she was shown displaying on her Tumblr post was her absentee ballot from her home state of Texas.  In Texas, you're not allowed to use a camera or any other recording device within 100 feet of a voting station, but disclosing your vote isn't a no-no.  Since she was simply holding up her ballot, wasn't at a polling place, and you couldn't actually see who she voted for, she's apparently off the hook.

In addition to her vote being obscured, the ballot that Beyonce displayed also had her address obscured.  While her address may remain a mystery, it's probably not hard to guess which candidate got her vote.

Mariah, Beyonce and More Stars Urged Fans to Vote on Election Day

@foofighters(NEW YORK) -- With Election Day upon us, celebrities have pushed their fans to the polls.

As if her earrings hadn’t made it clear enough, Beyonce posted a letter endorsing President Obama on her website. “Every day we see your heart and character, inspiring all of us to give more of ourselves,” she wrote. “You are the leader to take us from where we are to where we need to be.”

Melissa Joan Hart tweeted her support for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, writing, “Can’t get too political in only 140 chac but for those asking, I’m voting #RomneyRyan.” (She defended her stance in subsequent tweets, writing “Probably lost a few jobs in Hollywood with my political views. So sad the ‘tolerant left’ is anything but!”)

Sarah Jessica Parker made her choice clear with the Viva Obama shirt she wore to the polls. After posing for NYC paparazzi, she yelled at them to go vote.

Mariah Carey turned voting into a photo session, documenting her time at the polls on Instagram and Twitter. "Let your vote be heard!!! Four more years!” she tweeted.

Joan Rivers had a friend hold her spot in one of New York’s many long polling lines while she went to the doctor. She tweeted this from the exam room with the message: “Why oh why is this patriotic American citizen still single?” She later returned to her polling spot to vote and tweeted, “Left Dr Nicholas and my gorgeous shorts behind and now back to find my darling Eric on line and vote. Perfect timing!”

The Kardashian sisters also skipped the lines at polling sites and voted early with absentee ballots. Kim Kardashian posted a photo of her yet-to-be-filled-out ballot on Instagram and wrote, “Sending in my absentee ballot now!!! Make sure you vote!!!!”

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl tweeted a photo of himself wearing an “I Voted” sticker and a big grin. Though he didn’t say who he voted for, since he performed at the DNC, Obama would be the logical guess.

Lenny Kravitz also let a sticker do most of the talking. He posted this photo with the tweet, “I voted. Go #vote”

Many other stars urged their Twitter followers to vote no matter their political affiliation:

Kate Walsh: “Epic lines at polls…America is VOTING, yo!”

Zoe Saldana: “Don’t forget to vote today…every vote counts. -ZS”

Jennifer Hudson: “We vote, we win.”

Nicki Minaj: “Beyond proud of your passion to let your voice be heard. Happy Election Day”

Jennifer Lopez: “If you are old enough to vote for the first time, exercise your right today. It matters-and can change the world.Go vote”

Lady Gaga: “So great to see everyone so involved today, going to say some political prayers and take a nap. #GodBlessAmerica”

Some made their leanings clear:

Ellen DeGeneres: “If you want to see change… vote. If you want equal rights… vote. If you want good deals on holiday sweaters, go to jcp. Then vote.”

Gabrielle Union: "I have republican friends. We don’t insult each other, we respectfully disagree & … WE VOTE! I vote #Obama2012!#NoNegativityZone”

A few were more blunt about their choice:

Stacey Dash: “Vote Vote Vote @MittRomney @RepPaulRyan #blacks4Romney#RomneyRyan2012#Vote2012#VOTE”

Spike Lee: “Today We Got 99 Problems But A MITT Ain’t One.(With Love To My Brother Jay-Z).BROOKLYN STAND UP.We’re Ridin’ With Our President Obama.VOTE”

And some got kind of silly:

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
: "Before I vote – final question.. who wakes up first and starts kickin’ a** before sunrise? @MittRomney or @BarackObama #CINC

Jennifer Love Hewitt: “I find voting super sexy! Go vote!”

Donald Trump (on Facebook): “Me voting -- it really is my hair!”
